FOGC Annual General Meeting 2025

3rd March 2025

Headteacher Report

Charity number: 271168

Are we up to date with our returns to the Charity Commission?

Yes

Involvement:

There is still a limited involvement from families and we rely on staff and community members for many of the FOGC things to happen. Those families involved do an amazing job!

College budget situation:

The college continues to have significant and difficult decisions to make in relation to the resource we are allocated. Fundamentally the amount of money we get does not match the staffing, rising cost levels, maintenance and running costs for the college.

The aim is to use funds via FOGC for developments and enhancing/ maintaining the resources and opportunities we offer.

The work of the Friends is of great, daily, importance to what we can and do provide for students.

Fundraising challenges:

The cost of living crisis while less than it was a couple of years ago has left a significant dent in the ability of grant awarding bodies to donate (alongside greater demand to them). It has also resulted in families being less able to contribute (time and money) to the FOGC.

What have been the fundraising successes over the last year?

Jonathan Archbald running an ultra-marathon to raise money

Quiz in college

Pub quiz

Summer BBQ/music fest

Christmas Fayres

Raffles

Pre moved school uniform sales

Donations

Barn dance

How have the FOGC have supported the college over the last year?

Paid for two sets of lockers as part of an ongoing commitment. Contributed £6000 to one of our new minibuses.

Contributed to a ramp for the stage (£1.88k)

Donated £750 to the library set up

Paid for the relining and replacement of one polytunnel via a grant

Paid £2.1k for football goals for the refurbished MUGA.

Contributed £5k to a new smaller minibus that is wheelchair accessible.

Where would we like FOGC to go next?

Raise money for:

Sensory room upgrades

Upgrades in the grounds.

Updating the kitchen in the Rosie

Life skills equipment in Durrington Lane

School lottery

What are the plans for future events?

School lottery: we are establishing a school lottery as part of a wider national lottery to provide a straight forward way of getting money raised.

Who are the Trustees and what do they do?

All charities have to have a group of trustees who have legal oversight of the accounts, use of the money and to ensure it is being used for charitable purposes. They have to ensure the law, in relation to charities is followed. They also have to ensure that the relevant charity law is followed.

The trustees are:

Phillip Potter since 18[th] August 2011

Claire Moyle since 1[st] September 2023

Jen Pogacic since 1[st] September 2023.

Thank you to the following organisations:

All these organisations have provided direct support to events and the college. Ferring Contemporary Lodge Lt

Ashfield Trust

Navana

East Preston Council

Worthing Masonic

North Star Public House

Thank you to the following people:

None of this happens without a team of committed people.

John: for running for the FOGC.

Anna/Mary, the chairs, who have worked tirelessly over the last year.

Tina who has done a great job as secretary.

Marie who does so much behind the scenes.

Claire who has been so organised as treasurer.

The quiet, organised, determined nature of our family supporters in FOGC is really appreciated.

I would like to thank the family members, the community members and the staff who support the Friends of Oak Grove College. The impact on what happens in college is significant. The commitment and support from you is significant and very much appreciated.
