Chair’s Report for the year ended 30 September 2023
Richard Brown stepped down as Chair in Oct 2022 and was replaced by Simon Maylor. Over the course of the year Simon Maylor’s work/balance changed, along with his job. This led to him reconsidering his place with the company. He informed the Trustees of his decision to step down and after the 2023 Production it was determined that Reuben Milne should take over as Chair. Thanks to Simon Maylor for everything he has done for SaTG over the years, especially his publicity work.
Short term Challenges
The production of Much Ado About Nothing was successful and made a healthy profit of £13,000. Two issues need to be addressed:
-
Seating problems. This will be discussed at a Trustee Meeting to balance cost/audience numbers and comfort
-
Roles and responsibilities: It is proposed that Trust roles be separated from the Production roles allowing more people to take part in the running of, either, the trust or the Production.
Medium Term Challenges:
-
Grow and develop Audiences. Need to bring in younger audiences to future proof the company. Reach out to other groups. More collaboration with local theatre community.
-
Large Legacy donation. SaTG have received a large donation for the will of Frank Brudenell, a long-time audience member. It was determined that smaller companies would have more benefit from the money and it would make a difference. Trust to discuss how best to use the money.
Bursaries for 2023
Student Bursaries were awarded to Nula Millard, Samantha Arnold and Nick Barrett for their invaluable help on the Sound/Lights/Filming team. The Mo Pearce Bursary was awarded to the Commemoration Hall to contribute to their new Lighting set-up. This is part of the ethos of supporting local Theatre in Huntingdon.
Thank you:
-
To the directors, actors, crew and Trustees who keep the company going
-
To Paula Incledon-Webber, for her successful production of Much Ado About Nothing which had great audience feedback and was resounding critical and financial success.
-
To the Trustees as running the company takes a lot of time.
-
To Lynne Livingstone for running the recruitment event and skills workshops.
-
To Phil Leverett for his financial stewardship. Phil Leverett will step down as Treasurer in 2024 so there is a requirement to find a new Treasurer.
-
To James Barwise for running Front of House, and also with Ashton Cull and Lynne Livingstone run Production Co-ordination for MAAN
-
To Ashton Cull for working on the Roles and Responsibilities of the Trust
-
Finally thank you to Helen Arnett who is stepping down as Trustee. She will continue to be part of the costume team, taking on Costume Supervisor for Hamlet. Reuben Milne proposed a vote of thanks for all the years of hard work in the service of SaTG.
