GROUP SCOUT LEADER REPORT
st YEAR ENDED 3 ~~1~~ MARCH 2021
Well!! What a year this turned out to be, unlike any other! The Pandemic hit us and changed our lives. But, Scouting remained constant.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of all my leaders, their assistants and helpers. They really came up trumps! They found innovative ways to engage the young people in the various sections on Zoom and also, when able, in outdoor activities, socially distanced and in small groups or bubbles. They met parents on driveways to invest their child, who stood at a distance on their doorsteps. They did home cooking via Zoom with step by step actions – most with some success! They completed all kinds of badge and award work. They went over and above by going to the child’s house to deliver the necessary equipment to enable them to complete the activity. Remember, these people also have families and work commitments to fulfil as well. They really went that extra mile, and beyond.
Sandra Brown retired as Woodland Beaver leader after a great number of fantastic years. But the good news that she is still helping when required and her daughter Angela took over, ably assisted by Kat, Sami, Chloe and more recently Ben. We said goodbye to Sally Holmes who retired as Forest Beaver leader last July after 16 years with the Group, but I am delighted to welcome Rosie Ratcliffe and John Gale, who have settled in very nicely working alongside Scott and Charlotte and more recently Emma. Frontier Scouts had a change of leadership when Duncan retired. Butt Matt Phelps, Tom Carpenter & Tom Wilkins have taken charge and they are really making a big impression on the Troop. Pioneer Scouts are, as usual, providing Scouting to a high of quality. Gary, Sam, Rebecca, Katie, Ade, Glynn and Emily make a great team. Pathfinder cubs with Ats, Steve and Nigel continue their good work and Kingfisher Cubs under the leadership of Erica, Graham and Jo assisted by Jemma, Will, Lewis and Sherilyn go from strength to strength.
Now to our fantastic Explorer Unit! This group of young people, led by Martin, Dan, Jon, James, Philip and Chelsea are a credit to themselves and to their leaders, but especially to the Group. Many of them assist in the various sections giving valuable assistance to the
leadership of those sections. So Hooray! And thank you to all leaders, assistants and helpers, and humble apologies if I missed anyone, you are equally valued!
Now, to another group of indispensable people, the Group Committee. They work so hard to ensure that the Headquarters are a safe and lovely environment and find ways to raise much needed funds to support our endeavours. So I thank them all, but I would just like to mention Peter Holmes, our treasurer. He has worked very hard to ensure, by applying for the many grants that have been available, to support the funds we haven’t been able to collect from membership subscriptions, with huge success.
Finally, I just want to say that I am retiring as Group Scout Leader in the near future. I have been part of this Group for 40 years. Most of them, as Akela of Kingfisher Cubs, and then as GSL. I have enjoyed every minute, including the ups and downs of life! I have made many lifetime friends and feel very fortunate to lead and been involved with 1st Rustington Scout Group. Anne Lecuyer GSL.
1[st] Rustington Scout Group Annual General Meeting 8[th] July 2021 Chairperson’s Report For the Year Ended 31 March 2021
Welcome to all guests (names will be given on night), District Members, Leaders and parents well we have completed a zooming year at 1st Rustington
Sadly due to covid-19 all sections have had to adapt to using zoom and the committee has been no exception. We have managed to keep the cogs turning behind the scenes and ensure that HQ is covid safe for face to face scouting which finally has been allowed to go ahead. We have kept the finances stable with the help of our excellent Treasurer applying and being successful in obtaining various Grants which have kept the wolf from the door.
Unfortunately as a committee we have not been able to meet face to face yet and sadly have not been able to do much in the way of fund raising but we are looking forward to resuming that role in the autumn.
A big thank you to our GSL, committee, leaders and helpers who have worked together to keep 1st Rustington scouting during the pandemic.
If you feel you would like to help out behind the scenes on whatever basis you feel comfortable with, even an hour to help on a stall at one of the events is much welcome, please do not hesitate to talk to either one of us or the leader of your child’s section new ideas and fresh faces would be very welcome.

Group Executive Committee Chairperson
1[st] Rustington Scout Group Year Ended 31 March 2021 Treasurers Report
As we all know this was a very unusual year. Scouting activities were severely affected and the membership fees we received were significantly less than normal. No fees were collected for the summer term and fees of only £5008 were received for the two other terms, of which £2213 was received after 31 March.
Nevertheless we still had to maintain the hall (£7448 insurance, maintenance and services) and the minibuses (£3500) and pay our membership fees (£8223).
What kept us financially sound was the generous amount of Covid related grants (£20,708) and Gift Aid (£3512). As a result we finished the year better off in purely financial terms than we started seeing our total funds (including the section accounts) rise from £70,306 to £79,090.
