## Trustee Financial Re ort p

## **Newhaven, Lewes & District Mencap**

## **Year Ending 30 September 2025**

## **Financial Overview**

During the financial year ending 30 September 2025, the charity recorded total income of £34,576.94 against total expenditure of £28,740.77, resulting in a net surplus of £5,836.17.

This positive financial outcome reflects the Trustees’ continued focus on improving sustainability, diversifying income streams, and making operational improvements that support the long-term viability of the organisation and its services to the local learning disability community.

## **Income Generation**

A significant contributor to the charity’s financial performance this year has been the continued development of hall hire and community-based income streams at Riverside Hall in Newhaven.

Hall hire income has proven to be one of the charity’s strongest revenue streams, generating over £6,600 across multiple bookings and demonstrating the value of the venue as a community asset. Increased use of digital tools and improved financial processes have also supported more effective booking management and financial tracking.

The organisation’s digital transformation of financial and administrative processes, including the use of modern accounting software and improved payment systems, has allowed the Trustees to manage income streams more efficiently and maintain clearer oversight of financial activity.

Additional income has been generated through member subscriptions, community fundraising events including fayres and tombolas, kitchen and tuckshop sales, donations, grants, and door income from social events. Community support remains strong, with donations and event participation contributing meaningfully to the charity’s overall income.

## **Investment in Facilities**

The Trustees remain committed to maintaining and improving Riverside Hall, which is the primary venue for the charity’s services and activities.

During the year, expenditure has supported the ongoing maintenance and operational upkeep of the hall, ensuring the facility remains safe, welcoming, and accessible for members and visitors.

A key improvement during the year was the installation of a new security system, strengthening safeguarding and building security for members, volunteers, and hall users.

Further investment has also been made in cleaning, maintenance services, utilities, insurance, and general operational infrastructure to ensure the hall continues to operate safely and efficiently as a community venue.

## **Future Development of Riverside Hall**

Looking ahead, the Trustees are developing plans for further renovation and enhancement of Riverside Hall.

The aim is to create a more immersive and flexible community space, improving the experience not only for members attending the charity’s Friday Night Social Club, but also for external organisations and community groups who hire the hall.

By improving the facilities and atmosphere of the venue, the Trustees hope to increase hall hire opportunities, improve the experience for existing users, generate additional sustainable income for the charity, and provide a more inclusive and welcoming environment for the wider community.

## **Charity Communications and Community Outreach**

In the coming year, the charity intends to reinstate and strengthen its Communications and Outreach programme.

This initiative will focus on increasing awareness of the charity’s services within the local community, reaching out to families and households with individuals who may benefit from support, encouraging new memberships, and recruiting additional volunteers to support activities and local events.

Annual Trustee Financial Report - 6 March 2026 Registered Charity Number: 270064

By expanding outreach efforts, the Trustees aim to ensure that more individuals and families with learning disabilities are aware that Newhaven, Lewes & District Mencap is available to support them.

## **Summary**

The Trustees are pleased with the organisation’s financial performance during the year, with a healthy surplus achieved while continuing to invest in facilities and services.

Through responsible financial management, improvements to operational processes, and the continued growth of hall hire and community engagement, the charity is well positioned to continue supporting people with learning disabilities and their families across the Newhaven and Lewes district.

The Trustees remain committed to ensuring that the organisation continues to grow sustainably while maintaining its core mission of providing inclusive social opportunities and support for people with learning disabilities in the local community.
