The Trustee's Report is prepared In atcordanee wth Charities SORP and the audited finan¢i81 ststements for
the year ended 31 December 2024, which are wepared in awjrdance with the Statement of Recommended

During 2024 the spirstual and promotion activity of St Patrick's Missionary Society, based at 242 Brooklands Rd.
Weybridge, SLwrey, United Kingdom, KT13, and covering both England and Wales. continued to focus on
promoting spiritual and financial support for the SOc￿ty and the missionary work of th¢ Lord throughout these
tmo countries. The ever- generou5 resporbsè of the people of both countries can bè sèèn in thè finanaal retuins.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
a. History
The Dislrirt HouselPromotion Office of St Patrick's Missionary Society is located al 242 Brooklands Rd,
Weybridge, Surrey, United Kingdom, KT13_ Thè District Lèader is Fr Joseph Mccullough. The Director of
Promotion is Fr. Stephen Kimani. Fr. Timothy Redmond is a resident al 242 Brooklands. he is the
r￿mmunIcatIOnS olfieer for SPMS, and the safeguarding lead for SPMS UK. The Society does not have any
p￿rni5@S in Wales.

Throughout 2023124 there were a total of seven members ol Sl Patrick's Missionary Society Tesident in
England. There are members resident in Wales. Five members are resident outside thè Soaety's London
house. of whom lour ar8 involved in parishlchaplaincy ministry in their respective locatsons. TheE are three
mpmbers resident at 242 Brooklands - one of whom is directing the promtion programme of the S¢aety and
one holds a Society posi1Son and a¢Jditional two members are resident in Englané.
The main focJJs of the of the Society in England & Wales is the promotion of the Soc4ety and its
mi$5ionary work. This work involves parish vigtslion at weekends to those parishes allocated tts the Soaety by
the Catholic Missionary Union. under the aUspi￿S of the Catholi¢ Bishops Conference of Eruland & Wales.
During these weekend visits to parishes, our priests invite people IcTr support Ihe missionary work of the Society,
both spiritually and financially. During the weèk. the Director of Promth"on administers the Promotion Office
and is as￿sted in this by an Office Manager and IY40 full bme Office Assislanls.
c. Gav•rnance
In ac¢ordance with the constitution of the Charity the four members of the Central Leadership Team residing in
Kenya are Trustees together with the 8ursar General of St. Patrick's Missionary Society who rèsides in Ireland
and is, by virtue of hi$ office. Secretary to the Board. The local Le￿er rèsiding in the UK is 8180 appointed as a
Tnjstee.
As all Ihtr Trustees, on assuming office, are members of the SocAety they already have knowledge of the work
of the Charity and rts structure. There is a policy of induction and on-going training of Tru51ee5. On being
appointed. after General Chapter every ssx years, the new Trustses are required to spend a week with the
Truslees who are leaving office, for a comprehensive briefing and hand-over. They also receive a briefing from
the Soaety's acr￿Untant and legal and bnvestment athi5ers in order to become sware of their ￿$￿)n￿bilItieS
and the Charity's finanaal position.
The Tnjslees have a good knowl8dge of thg prin￿￿e8 ol gwd govemance and they understand their

the le9al and stslutory regulations governing the Charity Sector.
As all Trustees are members of St. Patrick's Missionary Sorjely their living Costs are bome by the Charity. They
receive no remuneratr'on or expenses for their seNices a5 Trustees. The nsmes of the Trustees who served
during the year are set out as part of the legal and administrative inf0m￿tIon on page 1 of this annu￿ report
and accounts.
d. Risk management
In line with the requirement for Ihe Trustee lo undertake a rfsx asgessmenl exercisa and report on the same in
their annual ieport, the Trustee has looked at the risks the Charity currenuy facès and havè reviewed the
measures already in ￿ace or needing to be put on ￿aCe. The Trustee has identified six areas where risks may

Goveman¢e and management looks at the risk of the Charity suffering from a lack ol direLtion, at the skills and
training of its members and 5tsff, arKI the good ustr of its resources. The appointment of a Govemance Sul
committee lo advi8e the Board and to set in place thè nècessary structures, poliryes and pro¢o¢ols is a key
Strategy in mitigating this risk.
Operat￿nal looks at the risks inherent in th8 Charity's activities. induding the Mission Awar$n¢ss Pr￿ramme
carried out in parishes throughout England and Wales, It looks at the risk of members engaging in inappropriate
activities. the unsuitsbility of buildings, poor maintenance. shortcomings in the services provided, difficulties
th staff, poor health and safety provisions and the provision of a di5a51er recovery policy. The appoirslmenl of
key appropriately trained personnel, e.g. a Child Safeguarding Officer and a Data Protection Cotsrdinalor. helps
to mrtvJale these risks.
Finsncial risks include those arising as a resutt of poor budgetary control, inappropriate Spending, pcM)r
acGo)unting, inappropriate investn￿nt poliaes, foTeign curren¢y exchange, etc. The appointments of a qualified
Chartefed A￿untant and appropriately qualified support staff help to msti.gate these risks.
RepUtsti￿a1 looks at possib￿ damage lo the Charity's reputation and the risk is lessened by a dedicated
communications dèpartment.
Laws, regulations, external and enviri)nment look al the effècts of govemmenl policies and the consequence of
non-compliance with laws and regulations. The Trustee and managers are encouraged ar¥J reswrced lo avail
of in-service training to update their ski15s and knowledge of the ever increasing regulatK)ns and legislation in
the Charity Sector.
Having assessed the tnajor risks lo which the Charity is exposèd. the Trustee believes that by monitoring
reserve levels, by ensuring controls exist over key finanaal systems. and by examining the operational and
business risks faced by the Charity, it has established effective system5 to mitigate those risks. The Tru8tee
has maintained a policy of continuous monitoring ol the risks that the Charity faces.

e. Protection of children and vulnerable adults
Along with all other organisations who serve in the commurlty, the Trustee recognise5 the ab501ute ne￿sSItY of
ensuring the protection and safety of all those the Charity serves. They are committed lo protècting and
promoting children's rights. 11 is the responsibility of every member, volunteer and employee of the Charity to
uphold the law and adhere to Gospel values by respeL*ng the dignity and rights of all d)ildren, young people
and vulnerable a¢Jults, and lo work together to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Sl Patrick's MIss￿nary Society is committed to working in pathership with the Civil Authorities lo ensure all
aspeds of the safeguarding of children are managed prO￿rIY, profèssionally and jusly. We adhere to the
statutory policy and a￿ ctsmmitted to following best practice as specified in the National Safeguarding Policiès
for the Catholic ChurGh in England and Wales and to following our own Child Protection Policy and Procedure5
as set oui in the documents "Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding Childrèn in St Patn"ck's Missionary
Society" and 2018 Revised Safeguarding Policy for the District Df Ireland" Ivvww.spms.org1- All members of the
Society, our employees, volunteers and thos$ work(ng in a$weiat40n with the Society are required lo comply
with these sy)licies.
f. Or9anisational StrnC￿re and management reporting
The Trustee is ultimately responsible for the policAes. activitie5 and asse15 of the Charity. The board meets on a
regular basis to review developments with regard to the Charity and ils activilles. lo plan for the futu￿ and to
make any important de￿$lOn$ that need to be made. When ne￿$sary the Tlustee seeks advice and supp)rt
from the Charily'5 professional advisers including Investment Managers, Solicitors and Accixjntsnls.
The Bur$ar General and Ihe Society Accountant meet with the Trustee lo discuss and review ihe warterfy
managemènt and financial reports, the annual budget whenever necessary to provide assistan￿ to the
Tnjstse in carrying out th￿r respon8ibilitie5.
The annual budget prO￿sS involves detailed projections for planned expenditure and the calculation ol
expected ineome. This 1$ carefully analysed and once approved by the Tru$le¢ must be Str￿dY adhered lo. The
Bursarf5 office r￿nitors this closety. The Trustee receives a statement of income and e2sh flow on a monthly
ba515.
The day-tfrday management of the Charity's financial aclivities and the implementatlDn of budgetary and other
financial polic4es are ddegated to the Bursar General, who is a member of St. Pslriek's Missionary Society. The
Bursar General administers the financial affa5rs ol St Patrick'$ Missionary Society under the dire¢tion of the
Trustee and is assisted in his work by the Stsaety ACC￿untant and other senior stsff.

The Soc4ety promotion programme. which has bwi lundioning for many years. is and remains thè main
purpose for the Soaety's presence in England and Wale5. This programme has helped enormousty over the
years to build up a very loyal and generous family of supporters throughout England & Wales. almost all of
whom contribute regularly and generou5ty.
The followFng are the main aspects of the Promotion Piogrsmm*
Parlsh Wéékend Appeals- whereby peO￿e are invited to mi68ionary awareness and support. Usually we are
allocated two dir)ce5es per year. Nol all parishes respond lo our request to come and make our Mission Appeal
but we generally visf( all who invite us- usually about 80190 parishes per y88(.
Bulk AlailApp•als . of which Ihere are four throughout the year- generate Considerable Income for the Society
and the missionary work of the Lord. especially the Lenten Appeal. These activit￿S We￿ carried out
successfully in 2024.
Afrfca magazlne - thè Society magazine, is clstribyled nine times a year to our benefactois. Approximately
elèven thousand three hundred eDpies are sent out 83 a means of communication anij contacl wth our
benefactors. While not income generatsng, Africa magazine helps greatly lo makg th¢ Sociotys name and
mission known ana supported.
Other Income streams - Coordinated from the Promotlon Office, bring in considerable income. These indude
donation$ for Oltr O¢ca5K)n Cards, Mission Circle income, Perpetual Enrolment, Beque51s and general
donation5. These activities were particularly successful during 2022 and may be largely due lo the pandènmc
when supporters were more confined lo home and had rntsr8 tim• to attend lo their mail.

ol publicising the name and mission of the Soaaty. This is an area of growth in the Charities activities and
rformance.
The Soclety gratefully aCkno￿edge￿ the wonderful ganèrosity of the people of England & Wales over many
years and the contrsbution, both spiritually and financially. which they have made, and continue lo make, to the
mi8sionary work that the Charity suppcrts.
Work is ongoing in 3lre8mlining thtr aebvities of the Promotion Office through sharing the resources and
experbse of our very committed and professional staff in our promob'on offI￿S in Kiltegan and Scotland.
The weekend Parish Appe81s are a vital element of gathering and adding names to our database. This iy as
important, if not more important, than the actual direct income received from the Mission Appèals. Not being
ablè to gather such names in 2021 undoubtedty will have a long term negative effect on our already declining
datsbase.
Our database has reduced to nineteen thousand members. due to a clean up before the r￿W datsbase was
instslled. Tldying up our database and removing any inactive mem￿r$ r¢mains an on90ing task.
We are very conscious of increasing expenditure costs and continuing efforts are made to redu¢e them wh￿e
possible.
One of our largest expenditure streams is postage. We continue to make every effort lo redu￿ this as much as
possible and especially by inviting peo1￿￿ to allow us to aCknO￿edge their gener05rty by email and text
athnowledgment rather than by letter.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
a. Financial Infomiation
Totsl In¢om$ for the year amounted lo £1,830,664 12023.. £1.741,7641 which are the total reserves of the
Society.
Totsl charitabltr expenditure, including intra-fund transfers, for the year amounted to £1.659,857 12023..
£2.016.4631.
This resulted in a net defiot of £29,193 leaving an a¢CAAmiJlat8d lund baLance of £1,004,534 at 31 December
2024.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
The Souety does not expect to make any significant changes to ts activities in England & Wales in the near
fvture.

the Charity is 242 Brooklands Rd, Weybridge, Surrey, United Kingdom, KT13. which is also the principal
