CHURCH REPORT for 2024
‘O Church of God, with book unsealed, how its page beacons and brightens. Living stones we, each in his place, may we be worthy such a grace, while Truth the wide earth enlightens.’ Hymn 176
It is vital that we keep firmly in thought that we are an important part of a global movement that continues to play a key role in holding the light of Truth aloft amid the media’s daily flood of aggressive materialism.
We continue to be profoundly grateful for the dedication of our beloved members in keeping Christian Science active in the Woking community.
Our lecture given by Monique Hertgen CSB was much appreciated occasion, and our sincere thanks go to our lecture team for organising this event and the opportunity to welcome the local community into our church.
We were saddened by the loss of 3 long standing members, Leslie Bland, Ellen Burchett and Mindi McLean. However, their passing provided opportunities to celebrate their lives and bring a focus on how Christian Science had enriched them and blessed those who their lives had touched in so many ways. The celebration that we held in our church for Mindi was a truly inspiring occasion. Contributions shared by friends and family from around the world provided a wonderful testimony of how Christian Science had enriched Mindi and all those with whom she came into contact. Ellen, Leslie and Mindi served our church faithfully over many years in all the roles in which they were asked to serve.
It was a great joy and privilege to welcome Anita Morgan into membership during the last year.
Our gratitude also must go to Judy and Valerie who took on the role of joint-librarians. The financial support we received from the Westminster Fund and Trust Brit has enable us to rejuvenate our Reading Room. Details of this will be provided in the Reading Room report.
Woking Community Hospital continues to use our carpark, and we have been very grateful for the revenue this had provided. Further thanks should go to Brenin for his management of the carpark.
To conclude this year’s report, I would like to express my gratitude to my fellow board members and all the support they have given during that last 3 years. Also, the dedication of our clerk, Judy Lozeron, who kept us all on the straight and narrow!
Andy Mitchell Chairman of the Board
