Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire Benevolent Fund Trustees Annual Report Page 3 st Year ended 31 December 2024 Charity Reference and Administrative Details The Trustees present their port and the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) "Accounting and Reporting by Charitieg, in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the Charity. Trustees of the Chaiity The Trusiees who have served during the year and since the year end are detailed in the section on Charitable Details above. Governing Document The Charity was formed in 1975 by resolutson of the Finan committee of the Provision31 Grand Lodge of Devonshire of Ancient and ACpted Ma50n5 of England (The Provincial Grand Lodge). its governing document is the dedaration of trust dated 3 March 1975 as amended on 5 February 2(KJ7 in agreement with the Charity Commissioners authority dated 26 October 26. Objectives and Activities The objectives of the Charity are the relief of poor and distressed Brother Masons, the relief of poor and distressed widows and children of Brother Masons, also to benefft such Masonic or other Non-masonic Charities, and to provide local support for Community projects as directed by the Trustees. The principal continuing artiVTties of the Charity are the collection of charitsble donations from Brother Masons the claiming of any available income tsx refunds and the making of charitable grants in accordance with the wishes of the donor Brethren or as directed by the Trustees. Due to the efficiency of the administrative systems and the tirne freely given by volunteers the administrative expenses are modesL The grant objectives are aimed at distributing all of the income. The investment policy is to maintain a portfolio to create an annual income for distribution. Public Benefit Statement During the year as in previous years various Charities were identified and with the lifting of coronavirus restrictions. assistance was g ive n via two functions, and Trustees visits. In all some 54 awards were made totalling £80,790 (2023 £86.210). Lodges have met during this year, with reduced. but improving attendance, so fund raising and assistance requests have been slow, but improving. Organisations for the support of the elderly and disadvantsged members of the community. Food banks. The Ukrainian appeals. Small local organisations in contributing towards infrastructure projects. The increase in fund value this year is twofold, consisting of a further investment of £l(KI,000. accompanied by a general upturn of markets. Post Covid all Lodges in Devonshire are now ftjlly open, but attendance remains a problem. Some Lodges have had to make the deasion to close. Income has increased thisyear.
Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire Benevolent Fund Trustee5 Annual Report Year ended 31 December 2024 Page 5 Investment Pollcy Statement The Investment Policy Statement was submitted to RBC Brewin Dolphin Securities Ltd in accordance with The Trustee Act 20CM). The Policy Statement was prepared and agreed by the Trustee5 of The Benevolent fund and provides guidance as to how the asset management functions delegate to RBC Brewin Dolphin Securities Ltd by the Trustees should be exercised. The policy is reviewed on a regular basis. Investment Obiective The Trustees intend that the real value of their assets and income be maintained and enhanced over the long term by investment in a portFolio comprised of equities, fixed income stocks, indirect property investment and cash. Investment Brief In order to meet the* objectives the Trustees have appointed RBC Brewin Dolphin Securities Ltd as their agent to manage a diversified portfolio of suitable investments on a dsscretionary basis. The Trustees have selected an investment objective of a balance between income and capital growth. As Trug£ees we have considered the future sustainability of our investment portfolio. We believe it is important that we invest responsibly to achieve our charit5 goals. As stewards or our investments, our investment managers RBC Brewin Dolphin Securities Ltd take account of a wide range of environmental. Social, and govemance factors when assessing and selecting investments for our portfolio. Structure. Governance and Management Appointment of Tn[stS and Officers The governing document of the 3, March 1975 (as amended) confinned it was the responsibility of the Provincial Finance Committee to appoint or remove Trustees. Any Trustee 50 appointed, must be a member of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire. The person or persons in whom the statutory power is vested shall then by deed, be appointed to act as a Trustee. It is the responsibility of the Trustees to prudently manage the activities. investment risk and administration of the funds held by the Charity. It is a150 the respon5ibiltty of the Trustees to stimulate, advise. 1nfiUen, and cTrordinate, but not to direct, the Charitable givinE of all the Lodges in the Province of Devonshire. It is the general policy of the Charity to keep administrative and management costs to the minimum level, consistent with efficient and accurate stewardship of the funds entrusted to the Charity.

Trustees are encouraged to attend approprlate external cOnferenS and seminars where these will facilitate a greater understanding of their responsibilities and their duties to manage the investments of the Benevolent Fund in conjunction with the appointed investment managers. Risk Management The Trustees have a risk management poli and have examined the maior risks which the Charity faces and confirm that systems have been established to mitigate those risk The only major risk identified is that of investment returns on our income for the Fund which has been amply demonstrdted by the extreme volatillty in World stock markets, the Trustee5 feel that this was materially strengthened with the appointment of professional Investment Fund Managers and the Trustees stringent investment policy. The nature of the Benevolent Fund is such that the Trustees do not see any need for a Reserves policy but this is constsntly reviewed by the Trustees. Trustees Responsibilities Statement The trustees are responsible for pparIng the Trustees. Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). The law applicable to Charities in England & Wales requi the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the stste of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Chartty for that period. In preparing these finanaal statements the Trustees are Tequired to: Select suitsble accounting policies and then apply them consistently. Observe the methods and prinapals in the Charities SORP 2019 (FRS 102). Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements. Prepare the finanaal statements on the going concern basis unless it is inapproprlate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation.

They are also responsible for safegua rding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis under the historical cost convention, modified to include certain items atfairvalue. Thefinancial statements are prepared in sterling which isthe functional currency of the Charrty and rounded to the nearest pound. B- Funds Unrestrirted funds are available for use atthe discretion ofthe Trustees in furtherance of the general objectlves of the Charity. Designated funds comprise unre5trirted funds that have been set aside by the Trustees for particular purposes. The aims and use of each designated fund are set out in the notes to the financial statements. Endowmentfunds representthose assets whlch must be held permanently bythe Charity• principally the WAKE fund. Income arising on the endowment fund can be used in accordance with the objects of the CharTty and is included as endowment incorne. Any capital gains or losses arising on the investments form part of the fund. Investment management charges and legal advice lating to the fiJnd5 fonn part of the fund. Investment management charges and legal advice relating to the fund are charged against the fund.

For donationsto be recogni5edthe Charitywill have been notified of the amounts and the settlement deal in wriknng. If there are conditions attached to the donation and this requi a level of performance before entitlement can be obtained then Income is deferred until those condttiors are fully met or the fulfilment of those condrtions 15 W¥thin the control of the Charity and it 15 probable that they will befulfilled. Donated facilities and donated professional SeiCe5 are recognised in income attheirfairvalue when their economic benefft is probable. It can be measured reliably and the charity has cortrol over the ttem. Fairvalue is determined on the basis of the value of the giftto the Charity. For example the amount the Charity would be willingto pay in the open market for such facifrtate and Seices. A corresponding amount is recnISed in expenditure. No amountis included in thefinancial statements forvolunteertime in linewith the SORP (FRS 102). Further detail is given in the Trustee's Annual Repo For 1cles, the entitlemert is the earlier of the Charity being notified of an impendlng distribut[c of the legacy being received. At this point income Is recognised. On occasion legacies will be notified to the Charity however it Is not P055ible to measure the amount expected to be thstributed. On these occaslons. the legacy is treated as a Contingent asset and disdosed. Investment income is earned through holding assetsfor investment purposes such as shares and property. It includes dlvidends interest and rent. Where it is not practicableto recogntse investment rnanagement costs inCued with in a scheme with reasonable accuracy the investment income is reported net of these costs. It is included when the amount can be measured reliabty. Interest income Is recognised usingthe effective interest method and dividend and rent income is recognised as the Charitys right to receive payment is established. D- Expenditure Recwitlon All expenditure is accounted for on an ac(Tuals basts and been dassified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Expenditure is recognised wherethere is a legal orconstructive obligation to make payments to third parties. it is probable thatthe settlementwill be required and the amount of theobfigation can be measured reliably. It is (3tegorise under the following headings: Expenditure on charitable activwties indude grants awarded to insbtutions and individuals: and Other expenditure represents those itsms not falling into the categories abtwe including investment management Irrecoverable VAT ts charged as an expense aganst the actmtyfor which expenditure arose. Grants payable to third parties are within the chargeable objectives. Where un¢onrfrtional grants are offered, this is accrued as soon as the recipient 15 notified of the grdnt as this gives rise to a reasonable expectation that the reciplent will receive the grants. Where grants a conditional relating to perfomano the grant ts only accrued when any unfulfilled Conditions are outside of the control of the Charity.

They are incurred directly in support of expenditure on the object of the Charfty. Where support costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been added to expenditure on charitsble artivities on a basis consistent WEth the use of resources. The analysls of these costs is induded in the notes. F- Investments Investments are recognised initially at cost which is rbomially the transaction price excluding transattion costs. Subsequentlythey are measured atfairvalue with change% recognised in net gainsnosses on investments in the SOFA if the shares are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be rneaSUd reliably. Other investments are measured at Cost less impaRrnient. G-cash and bank Cash and cash equiwalents comprise cash on hand and call depostts, and other short-term highly liquid investments that are readily convertible to a known amount of cash and are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value. H - Debtors and credttors, recelvablelpayable withln one year. Debtors and creditors wrth no stated Interest rate and receivable or payable within one year are recorded at transaction price. Any losses arislng from impairment are recognised in expenditure. l-Tax The Charyty is an exempt charity within the meaning of sthedule 3 of the charities Act 2011 and is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph I Sthedule 6 Finance Act 2010 and therefore meets the definition of a charitable entity for UK corporation tsx purposes. J- Going concern The financial statements have been prepared on a going concem basis as the trustees believe that no material uncertainties exist. The Trustees have considered the level of funds held and the experted level of income and expenditure for 12 months from authorfsing these finanaal statements. The budgeted income and expenditure is s1clent with the level of reserves for the Charfty to be able to continue as a going concern. The fund is intended to produce sufficient income to enable sub5trantial sums to be distributed to Masonic and Non-masonic Charities within the County of Dèvon.
