Achlevements and perfomiance
Sllewell Hall Is a Chrislian Conference Centre and Camping localion in an idyllic thalion in the Suffolk coast. OUT

Since that time, we have made great improvements to the t￿lIding and brought back the building lo a high $tsndard

Our year ending October 2023, was both encouraging and challenging, as the recovery from the pandemic

The Hall is gratdul to Colin Low, who has dadicated time voll￿tan1Y to oversee the day-to-day running of the Hall
following the departure in 2022 ot the General Manager. we'￿ gralefvl loo lo Matt Shaddick, our Marketing

General Manager. The Truslees have also slepped in to support Colin and Matt as weekend hosts, 8nd we're
thankful for this further demonslrabon of their cheerful commrtmenl. Colin and Matt have btheen them provided
much.needed stability, have demonstrated good judgement, and in$ps'red confidence in the team Two ijrther
members of staff left during 2023. one lo ithre and one lo pursue another opportunity. Our gratitude to Ihern was
expressed personally as we marked their departures. After a fomial recruitment process, we were pleased to
welcome Jason Shaw as Hospitality Manager in Oclober 2023. Joson has quickty proved himself a great addition lo
the team.
As mentioned. th8 Hall is over 100 years old and in conslanl nood of care and attentlon. Further. the expect81ion8

rooms lo k similarfy upgraded. The Iruslees approved a programme to replace Ihg wndows on the oast face of
the building, and this work was substantially completed in the year.
The h8aviest impact from recent utility price incroases has been $gnificanUy aMe1￿)rated by our long tem fixed
prlce electricity contract which ended in the Summer. We antscipale electricity costs wll more than double as wg
move to a new cgntraci. The trustees have reluctsnlly agree(I to increase hire lees coriespondingly lo offset these
and olhef cost pressures driven by the cost of living tri￿$.
We are. 88 ever, indebted to those who continue to give fina￿lallY as well a$ their limo a$ this has ensured that

Plans for futurè parlods
Churches remain enthusiastic the Hall and th& faulth.es we offer but continue to slwggle to engender
commitment for residentials from thwr members. Like many in similar sectors. we operate in an environment of
unprecedented uncertainty. Senior staff and the board wll watch operations closely and make adjustrnenls as
quired. That said, the charity plans lo maintain all rt5 ongoing activities, subieci lo funding continuing and support
being received from visiting groups_ We thank our visitors for all their loyal support and feedback.
The Ifuslees have reluctantly agreed a significant inuea5e in hire charges to reflect the increased cost of running
the Hall. This, together with heatthier advance bookings. ewxjrages the charty to the believe that Income will
return towards pre.pandemi¢ levels this year. The truslees would like to appoint 8 rnember ol staff lo lake
responsibility for the grounds and the fabric of the building. but wll await finanaal results for the first part 012024
