1[st] Bicester Intrepid Scout Group Report of the Trustees Year ended 31[st] March 2021
The past 12 months have been very difficult for 1[st] Bicester (and the world as a whole) due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been guided by the Scout Association as to what we can & can’t do, including safety precautions & restrictions. Zoom meetings with the youngsters & their parents have been held to explain the situation and offer reassurance of a safe return when we can. Section leaders set up revised programmes undertaken via Zoom meetings so that all members who wanted to attend were able to do so every 2 weeks.
As a result of the pandemic, we were unable to carry out our usual fund-raising activities. However, the Group was most fortunate to be awarded Covid support grants by Cherwell District Council and Bicester Town Council. This has ensured the financial survival of the Group during this uncertain time and has allowed us to undertake some much-needed repairs to out HQ and grounds.
It was with great sadness to us, and many others, that the Remembrance Day parade had to be cancelled. Instead, a small church service was held, attended by 50 dignitaries. Our Group Scout Leader was able to lay a wreath from the Group in the afternoon, at a given time slot.
We were unable to undertake our usual Christmas celebrations. However, we were able to decorate a Christmas tree for the St.Edburgs Church festival.
1st Bicester was 110 years old in 2021 and whilst we have had to postpone our planned celebrations, we held a competition amongst the youngsters to design a new badge to commemorate this achievement. The result was excellent, and the winning entry has been made up into our new badge. Each member of the Group has been issued with one of the new badges. We will endeavour to hold our 110-year celebrations next year, Covid allowing.
The Trustees wish to say a big thank you to all members, friends & volunteers who’s continued support has helped us all through this very strange & difficult time. We hope that next year the Group, and life in general, can return to some sort of normality.
The Trustees
