Chelmsford and District Talking Newspaper Chairman's Report 2021-2022 Welcome to the Annual General Aleeting of Chelmsford & District Talking Newspaper for the year to 28 February 2022. l am delighted to tell you that we produced a full set of recordings this year. We have now settled into our new studio although we have delayed a full refit and sound deadening installation until Social Distancing is fully behind u5. Although social life has recovered somewhat, it appears that many people are still being cautious about mixing, particularly with people they do not know. This has inevitably reduced attendance at theatres. cinemas etc. with the inevitable reduction in expenditure by those venues on ne¥*vspaper advertising. The Essex Chronicle has recovered a little but still reflects a lack of news and a lack of reporters to deliver that news. Every picture may be worth a thousand words but it must be a g¢))I picture which shows something newsworthy, not a 105t cat. In addition to the Idemory Sticks posted to Listeners, our recordings can be accessed by a link on our website and through the British Wireless for the Blind mobile phoneltablet App. Chelmsford Community Radio continue to broadcast our recordings on Sunday evening at 8:CQ pm on 104.4 FM and our recordings are a150 available through ALEXA and G¢)ogle Assistant. We recorded audio version5 of the Essex Highways -consultation on Widening the A12 from Chelmsford to Colchester"" "Army and Navy Options Consultation. and a publication setting out the overall transport strategy for East Anglia which Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk Talking Newspapers placed on their websites and distributed to their Listeners. We continued our contract with the Essex Federation of WoTnen's Inst5tutes to record their Monthly Newsletter and arranged for its distribution to their VIP membeT5 throughout Essex in aSs￿lation with their l(Kal Talking Newspapers. The recordings were voiced by Wl volunteers from around Essex from their homes . using whatever phone51tabletslcomputers they have - and the results are very acceptable! We continued to record and distribute the Essex Sight Quarterly hlagazine Spotlight for Listeners across Essex and East London. Thank you all for your support over the past year, it is greatly appreciated by everyone involved and partTcularly by our Listeners. We have seen quite a turnover of Volunteers this year as several long-standing and much valued volunteers decided not to return - but we have recruited some new voices so we continue to move ahead. With so many of our volunteers shielding we had to put safety as a priority. I look forward to meeting you all at the AGM. Chelmsford & District Talking Newspaper Treasurer's Report for the Year to 28 February 2022 The annual accounts have been Independently Examined and will be signed at the AGM. Income for the year - As usual, our main income was dividends on our investment portfolio with CCLA, amounting to £7,532, interest on bank accounts was £4.53. We earned £1, 525 from recording items for other organisations such as Essex Highways and the Essex Federation of Woman's Institutes. Personal donations were £840. Waltham Forest Talking Newspaper closed during the year and distributed its remaining funds to local Talking Newspapers - we received £20,000 - which brought our total income to £29,901.48 compared to £8,313.28 last year. Expenditure for the year - Our major expenditure was Rent for our studio, £5,250. The rent increases each year to reflect inflation, starting the year at £433.00pm and rising to £443.77pm in October. Looking ahead to the current year, inflation has increased substantially and the monthly rent from Ortd)er is £488pm. Overall, our Rent spend increased from £4,622 to £5,250. Office Expenses at £393 are higher than last year, most of this due to Insurance, again £207. Under the TNF Members Insurance Scheme this has been held stable for the last 4 years, but an increase is due next year, the rest is the monthly Fee for our bank account. Subscription to the TNF is £42pa. We have delayed fTtting out the new studio until all our volunteers are fully comfortable with using the studio - however Social Distancing still appears to be with us so expenditure this year has been minimal. The Trustees will use part of the substantial donation from Waltham Forest TN to fund the installatTon of new furniture and sound-deadening panels. Expenditure on equipment totalled £783 - replacement USB sticks, postal wallets and a new fan to keep the studio a bit cooler. The TNF National Conference was held in Cardiff but I was unable to attend for health reasons. However, the Conference was available on Zoom with a small fee covering as many delegates from Chelmsford as wished to view which we took up. We spent £25.00 for our Accounts to be Independently Examined. Total Expenditure was £6,925.90, up from £5,769.94 last year, mainly due to a increase in rent. Overall, we generated a surplus of £22,975.58. Our investments performed well over the year, with the value rising from £220,093.63 to £234,974.12. However, you should be aware that the Stock Markets of the World remain volatile and our investments can fall as well as rise in future. We are still in a strong financial position. We had no changes to our investment portf 10 ring the year. ch ord Talking Newspaper Charity Number 268366 Register ID ￿22
