OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Lady Balogh's Psychotherapy Trust is dedicated lo Education in Psycholherapy. The Trust was created and
endowed in 1974 by Penelope Lady Balogh, who was among the founders ol psychoanalyiical psycholherapy
training In Britain. The Trust stands for main piinciples, which derThie from the work and thinking ol the
founder, her partner Deryck ￿e, and their associates. These are..
that p5yGhotherapy, and in particular psychoanatytical psychotherapy, should be made more widely available
in respect of both treatment and training.,
that the field Iheory(iesl of psychotherapy. and in particular psychoanalytical psychotherapy, should be
developed along a philosophic81 continuum, unobstrucled by factional dwisions. and maintained by an eclectic
and inclusive stance.

The Trust's pr1ncipal asset Is ils headquarters, 1 Fairbridge R¢)ad, Archway, London. This property was
purchased by the Trustees following the sale of the founderfs Original bequest in Primrose Hill. Over the years
the Trustee5 have spenl a considerable sum on repaiiing and improving the house. This year some internal
decoration took place.
The house is used in part as clinic81 consulting rwms, occupied by Iherapisls who pay room conlribulions 10
the Trust's Central Fund in return for use of the r¢)oms'. and in part by Ihe Trusrs principal beneficiary, the
Association lor Group and Individual Psychotherapy IAGIPI lor its administrative, training and membership
funclion5. AGIP'S use ol Ihe hovse is free of chaTge', in return, it carries out certain administrative functions on
the Trusleas, behalf.
In furtherance ol its aims, Ihe Trust..
-supports the Association for Group and Individual Psychotherapy la psychoanalytical
psychotherapy trainin9 organisalion, member ol the UK Council lor Psycholherapyl. formerly a se¢tion ol the
Tru51, with an annual donalion that represents a major part of Ihe income from the property,.
allows consulting room Tales lo be sel below going rates, giving scope lo therapists to accept low-pay¢ng
clientS-,
ha5 obtained funding for a low-_fee psy¢hotherapy scheme, the Fairbridge Clinic, which is run by AGIP-,
-¢onsiders applications for funding Irom bodies providing psycholheTapeulic training and 5etvices in the
community, in particular those who geek lo provide psychotherapy in areas where little presently exists,.

Originally. the Trust was set up a5 a central Trusteeship with a number of component parts. or Sections. All
these sections have now become independent bodies.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
During the year 2024 - 2025 the Trust supported thè foll¢)wing beneficiaries..
The Association for Group and Indivldual Psychotherapy IAGIPI
AGIP was established in 1974 as part of the Trusl. In October 1999, il became a Company Limiled by
Guarantee, and therefore an independent body. It is the Trust's Fnain beneficiary.
AGIP exists to provide a training course in psychoanalytical psychotherapy, lo provide psychotherapy at
accessible fees, and to support ils membeTS in their professional live5. The Association has been active in the
UK Council for Psychotherapy IUKCPI since ils inception, with leading roles played by AGIP members.
AGIP accepts trainee5 from a variety of backgrounds, with no a priori bar on grounds of gender, sexual
orientation, race, creed, educational background or physical disabilily. The courses attra¢l students who live
out of London., those who may have the ability lo train, but lack formal qualrficalions., and older students often
debarred from training elsewhere. The tTaining Is ecle¢tic, and 15 based on the principle of the personal
synlhe5is of orienlalions. The courses are laughl al weekends enabling people with full time (c¢upalions lo
allend. This year the Trust has also continued lo offer each clinical sludenl a book grant.
AGIP 15 a mernbership organisalion, with a democralicalty elected Council as managing body. There are
currently 100 members including trainees. Professional Members, who have qualified as independent
praclilioners, are eligible lo register with the UK Council for Psychotherapy
In offering psy¢hglherapy treatment. AGIP receives referrals from a variety of source5, including GPS,
hospitals, word of mouth, and through the Fairbridge Clinic (see belowl. AGIP publicises the benefits of
psycholherapy Ihrovgh appropriate publications and events, includin9 conferences and workshops foi the
publi¢ and olher professK)nals, and through ￿af1etS delailing AGIP'5 clin￿al facilities.
In addition lo ils free use of the Trust headquarters. the Association receives a subslanlial annual donation
from the Trust.
The Fairbridge Clinic
The Clinic was launched irs the Autumn of 1994 to provide reduced fee therapy for those on low income", il Is
partly funded by a charitsble donation secured by the Trustees for this purpose and is administered by AGIP
The Clinic fulfils an important function not only for p81ienls, but also for AGIP therapists In training, who
receive lower fees in return for the opportLJnity lo work twice weekty over a subslanlial period of lime.
Theiapisls working during the day in the Clinic are able lo use rooms free of charge. This conslilLJles a IuTther
donation lo the Clinic of approximately £7,000 per annum.
Recently the ¢linic has benefited from two generous donations rn￿e by kn psychotherapy or9anisalh)ns that
recently closed down - a very subslanlial donation from the Association ol Independent Psycholherapisls and
the other seen as a reiTnbursement of a grant from the Trust lo the Cork Psychodynamic Inlegralive
Gradvales Group, when it was sel up in 1994.
International Attachment Network
l.A.N.. lormerfy a seclion of the Trust, aims lo facililale the spread of knowledge and understanding ol
Attachment Theory. and lo develop ils applications in fflany areas, including psyehiatry, psychotherapy,
developmental psychopathology, paienl counselling, social work and social policy To thi5 end il holds
monthly peer supervision groLJPS, and Saturday workshops, sometimes al the Trust Headquarters. The Trust
has ¢onlinued lo enable the l.A.N. free use of ils premises for these actwilies.
Baobab Centre
The Baobab Centre is a non-iesidenlial Iherapeulic community that offers holistic support lo young survivors
of human rights abuses seeking refuge in the UK. The Trust gave a donalx>n to enable the Iherapisls working
with Baobab survivors lo have supervision ol their work.

prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 102} Accounting and Reporting by Charities..
