The Riley Cars Archive Heritage Trust Charity No. 266905

Report to Charity Commission for year ending 31December 2021

Ongoing Covid 19 concerns continued to hamper progress in maintaining a public presence in the archive unit situated in Coventry Canal Basin during 2021. However volunteers continued to upgrade and improve the facility and to open for public access whenever possible. Towards year end it was possible to open on two days per week and occasional Saturdays when interested visitors were welcomed to the facility.

Much progress has also been made in the creation of the trust's website and digital archive. Scanning and digitising historic documents continued throughout the year and, although still a work in progress, there is a considerable amount of information freely available to researchers into Riley history and for general interest to members of the public in U.K. and around the world.

Outreach events included a presence at Coventry Motorfest and the Classic Car Show at the Birmingham NEC where the trust's display replica of the first Riley car of 1898 appeared together with many Riley motor cars privately entered.

The next phase of the creation of a fully working replica of the first Riley is to investigate the possibility of reverse engineering and manufacturing the unique 1898 engine. A project team was set up to work on this and some design work was achieved although Covid lockdowns made it impossible to maintain good progress.

The trust confirmed its participation in the Classic Car Loan Scheme and provided a 1967 Riley Elf model for use in its first year. It was well used and maintained by its young driver for the period before being returned for a full service in readiness for its next custodian. The scheme is intended to create interest in Classic car motoring in young drivers, an initiative that the trust is happy to support.

Regular meetings by the trustees and the management group were continued using a Zoom account and thus full compliance with the trust's Governing Document was maintained. The trustees were satisfied that all procedures and accounting methods have been observed in accordance with the Charity Commission's requirements.
