Induction and training
New members of the Council review written materials and undergo an infomial orientation to brief them on their legal
obliuation5 under charity and company law, the content of the Memorandum and Articles of A550ciation, the deeision-
making processes. the objectives and strategies. and the recent financial perforniance of AKF IUKI.
Th¢ current m¢mb¢rs of Ili¢ Couiicil hav¢ acquir¢d in-depth knoivledge of the work of AKF IUKI and the Aga Khan
Development Nettvork Ihereinafter 'AKDN"i a5 a whole. The annual global Aga Khan Foundation budget meeting
involves the production of compreliensive information. including a progress report on all Significant activities. an update

Council regularls, throuohoul the year, to ensure they are kept abreast of key developrnents. Addiiional meetings on

governance. The Council has reviewed the Code and its key principles and believes that the goveman¢e of AkF IUKI

Despite the Continued challenges in Afghanistan. 2024 i¥as a year of significant activity and achievement in several

Support from the Dutch go*'ernment for Afghanistan: In •O*.1, the N*th¢rlands-fund¢d OMTD Project in
Afghanistan sllpported conimunity-based instiiutioiis io rehabilitate infrasiru¢ture. including i7 irrigatiot] canals,
three irri8iltion pipe schemes, thr¢e ivater reservoirs. five drinking water networks. and the installation of two
solar-powered irrigation pumps. In¢otne ¥en¢ration activities for ivomen included 12 blo¢k for¢st5. nin¢ home-
based nurs¢ri¢s. seven fruit nurserie5. six lemon houses. eight micro-forests. and four f¢rula cultivation sites, lrt
addition, 94 production and proccssing groups. including 1,425 women, were formed and trained. and processing

by providing asset5 like cows, goats, poultry famis, and greenhouses.

Basis of prepargtion
The charitable compans, is considered to be a publie benefit entity. The fjnancial stztemeiits have been prepared uiidcr
the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Statement of Retommertded Pra¢ti¢e applicable ¢0 charities
preparing their accounts in accordance i¥iih the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the IIK and Republic of
Ireland ISORPI. Ihe Companies Act 7006 and applicable Accounting Standards. FRS 102.
The meinb¢T5 of tlie Council have prepared the fiiiancial statements on a going concern basis with no material
uncertainiies, Ivhich they eonsider is appropriare for the folloiiing reasons.
The business model of the ¢hariry is such that lis ¢hariEable activities are limited to those which are primarily funded
by funds Te¢eived from external donors. Other than cornmitrnents which are 50 fvnded. the charity ha5 no Specific
commiiments and no ¢tsmmitt¢d cost5 beyond it5 fixed costs of operation which are detailed in llote 5 and orants to be
paid lo partners from funds already reiei%¢d. The Council hake reviewed foFecasts covering the period of l ? months
froTn th¢ date olapptDval of these financial 5tatetnents which indicate th&tthe charitv ivill have sufficient funds to meet
ils li#biliti¢s as th¢y fall due for that period.
The Council consider that as a result of the chariry's oper8ting model explained above. even if no further funding 15
received in the 12 months period, the ¢hariiy has sufficieni ¢ash reserves to pay all Lorntnitted ¢ost5. As a r¢5ult. the
Council constder it appropriate for the firtan¢ial stat¢ments to be prepartd on a going concem basis.

General funds are uiirestricted funds available for use at the disc￿ Iioll of the Coui)¢il in fuTtheTaii¢e of the get]eral
objectives of AkF (Uk) and whioh hav¢ not been designated for other purposes. Designated funds are unrestricted
funds e8rn1arked by the Council for social developm¢nt pro¥ramm¢s. institutional d¢velopm¢nt and forthe purpose of
purch2sing and developing properties held by AKF IUKI as part of its ¥harilabl¢ activitl¢g for social purposes.
