Presidents Report 2025
The past few years have been very difficult ones for the Association, due to the age of the building, the COVID pandemic and staff changes we have had. Significant impact on our revenue and the level of maintenance which we can carry ou.
During the last twelve months we have finally be able to replace our ancient boilers, and hopefully we will notice a significant reduction on our monthly gas bills which currently run at £1000 per month, electricity is £600 per month. Ian our maintenance manager comes and inspects the Centre each week and carries out various safety checks etc.
Our car park has had all of the lines and disabled spaces renewed.
We have an ongoing problem with the water bills, as we have had to get the CEO of the company involved, and we are in the process of paying monthly payments, but we hope to get this finally resolved in 2026.
All safety checks, risk assessments and testing of fire alarms, cctv equipment has been carried out.
Although the cost-of-living crisis continued throughout 2025, we managed to keep our Centre going with the regular bookers and some weekend events, although they are down on previous years, also a few regular bookers have cancelled due to lack of numbers. Laura has managed to get a few new regular bookers. The children’s parties are still popular and provide a good source of income. We also had the Christmas tree seller back again this year which also helps to keep us afloat. The premises is checked every 6 weeks for rodents, and this seems to be under control.
We had complaints of rubbish being thrown out onto the walkway between the garage and the London Road and we reported this to Sainsburys who declined responsibility, so Laura has reported this to the Council.
Our cleaners do an excellent job of keeping the Centre pristine. Due to falling weekend bookings we have decided to cancel the weekend cleaning unless we have a booking.
We have not been able to mend the barrier, due to damage it has sustained over the years it is unable to be repaired, so we will have to move that maintenance job along with several others until 2026. We are hoping that we can apply for a lottery grant to help with the cost of the more expensive renovation costs.
The committee works very hard to support the staff at the Centre, I would like to thank them together with the Trustees for giving up their time to attend our meetings. Thanks must also go to Laura, Ian, the cleaners and Lesley for all the hard work they have put in during the past year.
