The Trustees present their annual report together with the Financial Statements of the Charity for the year ending 31 March 2026 .

The accounts comply with the Charities Act and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2015).

ANNUAL REPORT – 01 APRIL 2025 TO 31 MARCH 2026

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The Objectives as defined in the original Trust document, and listed on the Charity Commission of England & Wales website are:

The furtherance of the gospel in Great Britain or elsewhere in accordance with the doctrines set out in the schedule of the deed particularly in the North of England and for the advancement of Christian religion in any way which the trustees shall in their absolute discretion deem fit and in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing (1) to engage in evangelism by tent campaigns church crusade united church rallies mass meetings or personal evangelism (2) to publish Christian books magazines literature records tapes and films and (3) to provide sell or give away bibles testaments tracts Christian books magazines literature records and tapes.

The ‘Charity Overview’ on the Charity Commission Website lists the activities of the charity as:

To support evangelists who proclaim the Christian gospel to adults and children in the UK and abroad and provides support to Christian pastors in India and sponsors children in an orphanage in South India. All funds are committed as above, therefore no unsolicited requests for money are accepted or responded to.

FINANCES

The Trustees are once again grateful for donations received for the work during the year, enabling the charity to continue in its work as spelt out in the Objectives and Activities above. All funds are processed and used in accordance with the requirements as laid down in the UK government guidelines and charity law, and in the governance policy of the Association of Evangelists. The accounts are available in a separate report.

The majority of funds received are ‘designated gifts’, either to individuals working in accordance with the objectives of the trust, or for the support of Christian pastors and the children’s orphanage in South India. (see accounts)

All funds designated for India are in accordance with the ‘Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act: registration number: 010260083 in India. Due diligence for the use of these funds is carried out with regular communications and visits by, or on behalf of, trustees of the Association of Evangelists. No funds from the Association of Evangelists are used to cover the cost of these visits. (see India report)

CHAIR’S REPORT 2025-2026

During the year, Tony Brown joined us as a Trustee of the Association of Evangelists. He has served faithfully for many years as one of the Evangelists within the AofE, working particularly in trying to help those caught up in religious cults and sects. He has recently taken on the role of a Pastor in a church in Bradford and is employed by them. His experience, insights and wisdom will be a great asset for the AofE.

During the year, Gus Eyre officially ‘retired’ from the AofE, although he and his wife continue to ‘do the work of an evangelist’. Gus has served faithfully in different ways for many years, particularly using his gift of music and song writing to draw people in to consider the wonderful, good news of Jesus. He has had a particular burden for the needy and many on the margins of society have been helped to face up to reality and consider the Good News of Jesus through his work. We will miss the opportunities to meet with him.

In March 2026 Paul Angel joined the AofE as an Affiliate Evangelist. His work is primarily in the Bedford area, working with several smaller churches in the area and organising children’s and young people’s work in both the churches and schools.

The work of the Association of Evangelists has continued in a similar pattern as previous years with no significant changes in the focus of the work. It has continued to provide support for the 10 associate and affiliate evangelists based in the UK and provides support to the work of The Metropolitan Mission in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India (see separate report).

The biggest event during the year has been the annual ‘Conference for Evangelists’ held in January at the Yarnfield Park Training and Conference centre in the Midlands. This is our fifth year at this venue, and the attendance was once again up on the previous year (just under 200), as it has been each year at this venue. The purpose of the Conference is to provide a programme for others involved in similar works and charities. Attendees came from around the UK and represented a wide range of similar works to the AofE. As in previous years, the number of younger people attending increased. The feedback from the Conference was very encouraging. We anticipate a further increase at the next Conference in January 2027.

As in previous years we held our annual ‘Away Days’ in June 2025. This was attended by the Associates and Affiliates within the AoFE; along with the Trustees and others who fulfil our administrative responsibilities (as volunteers). This year we met at a Christian Centre in Northamptonshire. The venue for 2026 and 2027 will be at a different venue in Leicestershire.

As in 2024/25, we did not hold an ‘Annual Supporters’ Conference’ in 2025/6. We currently have no plans for a future supporters’ conference. We do, however, continue to provide a monthly online meeting for supporters to keep them up to date with the activities of the AofE. Each of these includes two reports from different associates and affiliates to keep supporters updated.

The Evangelists and Affiliates have worked mostly ‘in-person’, while also carrying out occasional ‘on-line’ training and events (one of the legacy benefits from Covid). They have worked with churches and groups around the country taking the opportunities to share the Good News about Jesus Christ to all people of all generations around the UK. There have also been some overseas visits made to other Universities, churches, and Christian organisations.

The five Associate Evangelists (Roger Carswell, Joe Kirby, Michael Ots, Martin Povey, and Andy Peace) have continued to work in many different areas of the UK and beyond. Each of the Evangelists ‘live by faith’ which means that they are not employed by the Association of Evangelists, or any other church or organisation. They depend on gifts from individuals to cover their living and ministry costs. Many of these gifts come via the Association of Evangelists and are recorded in the accounts. Other gifts come directly to them. Each of the Evangelists are responsible for their own accounts and tax returns.

The four Affiliate Evangelists are Peter Barker, Vinny Commons, Andy Nash, Steve Neal. Their work is normally less ‘itinerant’, working more specifically with a church or other organisation. Some of the Affiliate Evangelists are employed by other churches or organisations and hence have ‘affiliate’ status.

We continue to consider others who might like to join us as Associates or Affiliates. This is likely to be people who we know, or know us, and who understand the work we are doing and would welcome the opportunity to link with us to receive support in the work they are doing.

CHAIR’S REPORT 2025-2026 (CONTINUED)

The Associates and Affiliates have continued with their diverse range of opportunities around the country, often working and serving with different churches and Christian organisations. Most of these opportunities are for those who have little or no contact with the church. They are an important part of the regular ministry of many Christian Fellowships throughout the UK, and it continues to be a privilege to facilitate and serve the wider church in the work they do. Some of the Associates and Affiliates meet up with others in towns or city centres either visiting homes, doing questionnaire work, manning book tables or directly preaching. These are good opportunities to work with and train other churches. It has been encouraging to see local Christians getting involved.

Opportunities for the Associates and Affiliates have covered a wide range. There have been times when they have worked with churches for a full week of meetings with special guest interviews each evening which are good ‘hooks’ to raise the interest of those not regularly attending church. Another of the Evangelists continues to head up the work of Yorkshire Camps (running camps for children and young people). Another of our Evangelists uses a part of his time running a YouTube channel with many subscribers and a wide reach around the world.

Two of the Evangelists work regularly with universities, both here in the UK and in Europe, including several countries where the church has experienced restrictions.

The ‘Real Lives’ You Tube Channel was started in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. This continued into 2025 with regular live Saturday night events on-line and a regular following on the YouTube Channel. During this last year we decided to stop running the live Saturday nights, but they continue to be a resource giving testimony to the life changing power of Jesus.

In summarising the year, the Evangelists have been regularly involved in many varied opportunities both inside and outside the church to share the Good News of Jesus. This includes schools (whole school assemblies, Christian Union meetings and RE classes); Colleges and Universities (by invitation to one off special events or a series of meetings); camps for children and young people (Yorkshire Camps); city centres (particularly in the Nort West); on the beach (with United Beach Missions, another Christian Charity) and other places too. They participate in many other meetings including coffee mornings, senior citizen clubs, Bible studies, breakfasts, special meetings in old people’s homes and sheltered accommodation.

Writing and the distribution of Christian literature continues to be an important part of the work. New resources have been written and published which can be used for Christian work more widely. These include new books, short Christian ‘tracts’, and other materials for teaching children.

The Association continues to support and encourage its partner mission, the Metropolitan Mission in Andhra Pradesh, South India. (See separate report).

INDIA REPORT

The Metropolitan Mission (MM) is an indigenous church organisation working in the city of Vijayawada and the surrounding districts, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, South India. It remains active in NTR district, Krishna, Eluru, Khammam, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts. As well as organising Christian Worship in over 100 affiliated churches and worship centres, it is also engaged in reaching out to surrounding neighbourhoods with the gospel message that Jesus saves and with practical help to many struggling and disadvantaged groups. The MM is committed to the orthodox Christian message that man is separated from God by sin and rebellion and that the only way this breach in relationship can be overcome is through individual faith in Jesus Christ, his death on the cross and his resurrection from the grave.

The Metropolitan Mission now has around 130 pastors and Bible women and social workers working with them. This includes the pastors working in MM churches with their own buildings and regular congregations, as well as pioneers reaching villages with no existing connection to the MM. During the time of this report teams were active in 7 communities like this. Around 70 are helped through a sponsorship scheme facilitated by the Association of Evangelists. Individuals and churches in the UK can donate money regularly to the scheme, which goes to their nominated worker and allows these individuals to support their families as they assist their churches and communities. As well as the normal duties of church workers, such as preaching and bible teaching, conducting weddings and funerals, and pastoral visiting these individuals provide a vital link between the social work activities of the MM and the poor communities they work amongst. No new worship centres were established during this period.

There is a lot of maintenance and building work required in the different worship centres. During the period of this report a new church building was completed at Pulluru and Ammavarigudem and work was started on the church. Due to damage during flooding the church in Prakash Nagar had to be renovated, a new church building was built on top of the parsonage, and this has now been opened and dedicated.

Another important aspect of the work of the MM is the Children’s Home. This is situated near to the village of MV Gudem. The Children’s Home reopened in 2021 and is now back in full swing. Numbers of children fluctuate according to need. The mission usually has many more applications for entry than it can fund. Children may join the home and settle well but then domestic circumstances can change and they may be withdrawn. Also, a small number each year fail to settle so return to their families. Numbers of children therefore do vary throughout the year. During the period covered by this report, there were 102 children resident there, 56 boys and 46 girls. Some of these children, 72, are sponsored by churches and families in the UK. They send a regular donation to the mission and the funds raised help support the entire work of the home, including the care of the unsponsored children. No distinction is made between sponsored and unsponsored children in the home. The families in the UK receive information on the progress of their sponsored children through their education so that they can pray for them as they grow. The home provides a safe environment for the children where they can be fed and sheltered and given space to do studies and attend school. If they progress well, they will have the opportunity of moving on into higher education and the MM supports them in courses where needed. During the time span covered by this report the MM was supporting 9 students at 10th standard level who took these important exams. Of this all 9 passed and are progressing in their education. The Mission also supports 30 students in further education. Of these college students, 5 graduated during the period covered by this report.

The Children’s home is located on a compound in the countryside which it shares with the MM primary schools. There are 2 schools on the compound. In one the education is conducted in Telegu, the language of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Most of the children attending the Telegu school live in the children’s home itself, though some do attend from local villages. There is a growing preference for English Medium Education, even amongst the poorest village people and so gradually the strength of the Telegu School has been decreasing, however the numbers stabilised this year and there were 72 pupils, much the same as last time. We still have 6 teachers. The English Medium school remains popular as part of the MM ministry to the surrounding villages. There are now around 189 pupils in this school with 10 teachers. The mission employs 2 drivers to collect the students with the bus, and 4 ayas for the very small children. The home has 5 staff to look after the boys and 3 for the girls, 3 cooks, 2 security men and another who also tends the garden on site, plus 1 dhobi.

Finally, the mission seeks to help people in the surrounding villages who face particularly difficult circumstances. They provide some regular financial support to the families of 72 handicapped children, and single mothers. The mission also ran 2 tailoring centres during the period covered by this report. Each centre trains 10 women over a year and when they graduate, they are each given their own sewing machine.

My wife and I were able to visit the Metropolitan Mission briefly in November 2025 during which time we met with several of the pastors and also inspected the children’s home.

PARTNERSHIPS

An agreement was established and signed by all parties on 29th March 1994 between the Association of Evangelists and The Metropolitan Mission, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The MM is registered as a charity in India (TRUST163350). The Metropolitan Mission is registered to receive funds under the ‘Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act: registration number: 010260083 (01/04/22 for 5 years). Funds can only be transferred to the Metropolitan Mission via the designated State Bank of India account.

SAFEGUARDING

There are no safeguarding issues to report. The Safeguarding Policy was last reviewed 30/06/26.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Officers of The Association of Evangelists.

I report to the Charity Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 31 March 2026 which are set out on pages 7 to 11.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the Charity’s Trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination be being a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1 ACCOUNTING POLICIES

a) Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102): ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities, Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with FRS102 the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” (“FRS102”) (effective 1 January 2016)’, FRS102 The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (effective September 2016), and the Charities Act 2011. The disclosure requirements of Section 1A of FRS102 have been applied other than where additional disclosure is required to show a true and fair view.

The charity constitutes a public benefit entity under FRS102.

Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transactional value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy note and the financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis. The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the financial currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest £1.

b) Fund Accounting

Undesignated general funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.

Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The aim of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.

d) Incoming Resources

All incoming resources are included in the SOFA when the charity is legally entitled to the income after performance conditions have been met, the amount can be measured reasonably and it is probable that the income will be received. No amount included in the financial statements for volunteer time in line with SORP (FRS102).

e) Resources Expended

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the church to that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis.

Grants payable are charged in the year when the offer is made except in those cases where the offer is conditional, such grants being recognised as expenditure when the conditions attached are fulfilled.
