LAG Is undergolng a process of.change. In 2023. we completed work to fully update our financial systems. We
have wr¢tten down the value of stodE to reftect Inventory and written off bad deb￿ We substantially reduced
expendbture by restructuri￿ staffing and d￿ngIng book distributors. We have imiested In new staffing to
support publicatlons and tTalning and are projecting an inuease In tradinz Income. Our magazine will move to
dlÈital fuiiirdL iri SevleriiL￿I 2024, thu5 ellrnlnatlng prfnr and dlstNbuTlon costs, as well more e3sIty allowi
improvement to the product quality and accessibility. We also plan to increase revenue from trusts and
foundations to support Im￿ell￿ntatI0Tr of the new strate8ic plan.
As a result of the changes above. LAG saw a defidt for the 2023 year. Thls was expect￿ as some of the
cost.cutting measures were implemented in late 2023 and the fvll benefits will ￿ T￿l￿ed in the followlng
financial year. We antiapate retyTnineto surplus in 2024..
Reserves polity
The trustees aim to malrrtain free resewve5 in unrestricted funds at a level that equate5 to between three and
six rnonths of unrestricted charitable expenditure. The trustees conslder that thls le4el is r￿eSsary to protert
against flurtuations in trading Income and against drop5 in grant income.
The balance held as funds as of 31 December 2023 was £38.224. of whith £28.224 are regarded as free
reserves. against an actual three month spend of £121,259.
The current level of reser¥es 15 therefore below target and the tr￿tee$ antkipats that thi5 wÉll remaln the case
in the near to medlum term while the organtsrtion undergoes a period of transformation a5 tt executes Its
strate8ic plan.
Risk m•ft•gement
Tlw trusttts are in the process of conducting a review of the key rlsks to whlch the tharity is currently
exp95ed. Mltigaiing artions will be implemented to protett the ongoing stablllty of the tharity and allow the
organlsation to execute its long-temi strategk plan.
