Under the Constitution the committee shall consist of the Treasurer and the Secretsry (apwinted by the Committ¢¢). and not less than 7, nor more than 12, other persons. One third of the committee members retire each ycar, but may Ix Te-elected immediately. The Chairnian is elect¢d by the Committee to serve for a period of up lo two years, and is not subject to retirement by rotation. Membcrs shall pay an annual subscription payable on l April cach year. Since March 2021 Thc Lcague of Friends for Minchcad Hospital and the Community was not quorate having only six voting members instead of seven as stated in the Constitution. The committee actively sought ncw members despite the Covid-19 restrictions and at the next face to face meeting due to be held on the 21. July 2021 they voted in two new people, Alan Helmsley who a8reed to be Secretary and Mary Butcher. These appointments meant the committee w&5 back to havin8 ¢ight membersl t￿Ste¢S who were able to vote. Requests for a&sistancc are made by Minehead Community Hospital and are referred to thc full committcc. Tenders are obtained prior to purch&8e of high value items. in order to obtain best value. OWECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES The object of the Charity is to relieve all patients and fornxr patients of Minehcad and West Somerset Hospitsl and other patients in the community who arc sick, convalescent, disabled, handicapped, infinn or in need of financial assistance an(L generally* to support the charitable work of the hospitsl. The Charity provides a foc￿ for financial assistance to be channclled to the Hospitsl and raises fLmds to ssist patient comfort and help maintain the facilities offered by the Hospitsl. The tNstees have had rewd to the Charity Con]mission guidance on public benefiL ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE During the year to 30 Septernl￿r 2021 the Charity wa5 in receipt of donations totslling £513 and subscriptions and collethions totalling £901. BaDk intCTeSt received amounted to £12. The Cl)arity also rettiv¢d legacies of £43,845. Funds of £9,318 were used towards the cost of medical equipment for the Minehead Community Hospital. The equivalent total ex￿ditUre on mcdical equipment for th¢ previous year was £15,874. The incom¢ and expenditure account for the year show5 an excess of income over expenditure of £35,777 (2020.. cxcess of exF¢nditure over income of £13,558). Funds surplus to immediate requirements are held on account. The accounts are rcvicwcd r¢8ularly by the Treasur¢r to ensure the best interest rates are obtained. During the year the reserves of the Charity increased by £35,777 to £336,162. Substantial funding was given towards facilities and equipmeni for the hospital over the pr¢vious years. TATEMENT OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS, RESPONSIBILITIKS The Memlxrs of the Committee are reswlnsible for keeping accounting records which are such as to disclose with reasonable accuracy, the financial position of the Charity at any time, and to enable them as Committee Members to ensure that the financial statemcnts comply with the charity law and the Charity's Constitution. They are also responsible for safeguarding the Charity's assets. and hence for tsking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this y¢ar under scction 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an indepcndcnt examination is Deeded. It is my resp)nsibility to: cxamine the accounts undcr section 145 of the 2011 Act: follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by th¢ CIwAty Conllnission under scction 145(5)(b) of the 2011 ACL and stste whether particular matters have come to my attention.
