umma ects of actlvilies undertaken for the ublic benefit In relatlon to these Due to venu8 availabilty the third concert of our 2022r23 Season. Verdi's Requiem accompanied by Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra, took place on 1 Juty 2023 lie within our 2023124 Choir Year). The musical details of this concert were reported as part of that Season in the Chairnan's Report for 2022123. However, the financial cOnsequenS of that concert are. correclly, accounted within the Choirs Accounts for its 2023r24 accounting year resulb'ng in a fomial set of 'Statutory Basis. Accounts which have been subjected to IndeperKlent Financial Revtew in accordan with Charrty Commission requirements These Ststutory Accounts therefore Gover four concerts in the accounting year- .one from Season 2022r23 an¢J 3 from Season 2023124. However, in order to better track outcome of the Societys activib'es on a "Season-to-season. basis the Treasurer has re<ast the financial infomiation to enable more informed financial understanding on a yearn-Year basis of three ConrtS in each year. As well as Ing confimied by the Soaety's Treasurer these °Management Accounts. have been verified by the Chairman by referen to the underlying accountsng records. This only the second t'me in thè 35 year known h5Story of the Society that this has occurred. Our Choir Year Athviti'es therefore tethnicalty o)mmenced Yth the performance of Verdi's Requiem on 1 July 2023. Please see last yearfs Chaiman's Report ft)r details of that activity. Our 2023124 Season then saw us present three varied and well reiVed concerts along with a well supported Singing Development Day. Our Autumn cOnrt took place on 2 Dernber 2023 at St Nicks accompanied solely by Harp and Piano. As well as Britten's Ceremony of Carols anrfchilcott's On Christmas Night both audience and choir were thrilled by solo pieces for the Harp and both the Soprano and Alto soloists ably accompanied by TraY Renwick. We ran another successful Singing Day with Jack Apperley as part of our preparations for our 23 March 2024 performance of Brahms, Gemian Requiem at Pamoja Hall. As well as being a thoroughly enjoyable event in its own right the Singing Day helped towards our fundraising efforts and provbded a valuable contributs.on of some more than 20 sierS for the conrt. The Brahms concert attracted a good sized audien at Pamoja this year, though we lost quite a number of our own members from the COnrt fOrS - when we do big works we need everyone to commit to be there as part of the wider team. Feedback suggests that some people found singing in Geman mre drfficult and the rnusic itself quite challenging. Wthout the Singing Day reinforcements V would have found the going much tougher, but. just one slight wobble (which l think we got away with from the audience perspective) this was a very strong perf0mlan and greatly enjoyed by the audien.
We topped off an enjoyable season with °something COMptelY drfferenf- a concert perfomance of Gilbert and Sullivan's M'skado in which we were joined by a hugely expenenced company of soloists from Grim's Dyke Opera Company Company wearing costumes and using props from the D'oyly Cart archive. chorus parts that were not too tsxing we were able to enjoy close-up the consummate skill and eXpeen of the sokiists who delivered both the dialogue and their own vocal pleS with huge skill and clarity and outstsnding comic timing. We had a really good audience at Stag for this and the applause was thunderous. Robyn vtss in her element holding it all t()Jether perfectly and allowing the soloists full rein to entertain us all. Though the thorus music was notably easier compared with Brahms Requiem we again had quite a number of members who chose not to sing in this one- such a pity because it was tTuly a memorable perfoan. So all in all another wonderful season of sirwJing that attracted gocmj sized and appreciative audiences. My personal thanks go to Robyn for leading us so ably through such varied pertoire and to TraY for all her support at our rehearsals. Financially the outcome was good, thanks in no small part to a generous donation to cover the soloist costs for Mikado and the unsb"nting fundraising efforts of Caroline Wooj and the support you all give her. Finally, my thanks also go to your C(*nmittee- without vthose unsbnb.ng efforts none of this would happen. John Lam•r Chaimian. Sevenoaks Phllharnionlc Soclety
