## **ST. PEGA’S CHURCH, PEAKIRK**

## **APCM REPORT ON CHURCH YEAR ACTIVITIES - JANUARY 2023 T0 31[ST] DECEMBER 2023**

## **CHURCH SERVICES DURING THE VACANCY**

Our main achievement has been to keep the church running smoothly until September 2023 when Reverend Keir Dow was installed. Our Reader Derek has taken all of our church services each month since we have been in a vacancy, apart from Holy Communion which was usually taken by Reverend George, and we can’t thank Derek enough for his help, support and dedication, and also from his wife Jane.

## **CHURCH EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR 2023**

**Tuesday@10** held on the second Tuesday each month. **Messy Church** held on the first Sunday afternoon in the month. **Several sung Services by the Benefice Choir over the year.**

**St. Pega’s Patronal Festival** held on 15[th] January during evensong with Sam Graper singing. **Soup Days** held in January and February in Peakirk Village Hall.

**Benefice Lent Course** in February/March

**Brunch** – held in March and November in Peakirk Village Hall.

**Lent Lunch** held in March and the **Baptism** of baby Lyla Bradley. **Mothering Sunday** with a craft table and bunches of flowers for Mothers to take home.

**Easter Fayre** on 1[st] April and during **Holy Week in Easter –** A Reflections Service, Walk of Witness, Benefice Easter Eve Vigil with the Benefice Choir and Holy Communion on Easter Day by extension.

**On Pentecost Sunday** the outdoor service was held on the village green led by Fr. Michael Matthews.

**St. Pega’s Package** - Avril had three Church talks and walks booked in April, May and June which required tea and cakes prepared by the ladies of the church. All were very well attended and successful raising funds towards the conservation of the Wall Paintings.

**Music Concert** with the Glebe Singers at the beginning of July and also a **Bat Talk with Bat Count** by Anthony Mould took place in mid July.

**Hymns & Pims** held in September in the Churchyard in the evening.

**Licensing of Reverend Keir Dow** held on 17[th] September at 3pm at Maxey Church.

**Harvest Festival weekend** 30[th] September/1[st] October. The church was decorated with flowers and stalls held in the churchyard on the Saturday with hot dogs being served. A special Harvest Celebration Service was held on the Sunday morning with the donated goods being taken to the Food Bank.

**Christmas Events –** The lights were erected around the south side of the church by our usual team in the village. **Christingle Service** followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree with hot chocolate/mulled wine and cookies with a few carols. A **Wreath Making Workshop –** organised by Pauline Cooke was held in the village hall and was very successful. **Morning Prayer with Carols** was held in mid December, followed by Mince Pies. **Christmas Day Benefice Holy Communion Service** was held at St. Pegas and led by Rev’d Keir.

**BELL RINGING GROUP –** They still meet regularly to practice and the bells can often be heard ringing out in Peakirk before the Sunday morning services. A big thank you to them all.

**FOOD BANK –** People are still being very generous and we are making regular trips to the Food Bank in Deeping.

A busy year for all in the church and our thanks go to our wonderful team of helpers who support the church, both from St. Pega’s and also many village residents. Our grateful thanks to the Village Hall Committee for allowing the Church free use of the Village Hall during the past year for holding our fund-raising events.
