## Epworth Choir Annual Report 2023 - 2024
The Choir started back for the autumn term on 6th September 2023 where we held an EGM and were delighted to appoint Charlie Perry as the new Musical Director. Charlie has brought focus to elements of Epworth’s choral singing.
On 23rd September, the choir joined with Godalming Choral Society and Horsley and Oxshott Choral for a special performance of Verdi’s Requiem at The Theatre in the Woods.
On 14th October the Choir ran a Come & Sing event on Haydn’s Nelson Mass.
Charlie’s inaugural concert as Musical Director with Epworth was on the 6[th] December at Trinity Methodist Church in Woking. It was a wonderful evening of music and readings from choir members, and we were joined by Freya Parry to sing ‘On Christmas Night’, a collection of eight carols by Bob Chilcott. There was also a selection of new and traditional Christmas Carols, along with audience participation. Max accompanied the Choir on both the Organ and Piano. The concert supported a local charity ‘The Lighthouse’.
In January 2024 Epworth started rehearsing our spring concert which was held on 23rd March in Holy Trinity Church Guildford. Max opened the concert for us with a wonderful Organ piece ‘Dawn’, No 1 from the Four Seas Interludes by Benjamin Britten; the choir then sang Ave Maris Stella by Cecilia McDowall, followed by another Organ piece ‘Sunday Morning’ No 2 from the Four Seas Interludes, which concluded our first half. After a short interval, we performed The Nelson Mass. We were joined by 4 soloists and a small orchestra ensemble. We were able to support a local Woking Charity Silver Friends.
After our Easter Break, we started rehearsing for our Summer Concert which was held on 26th June at Trinity Methodist Church. We were joined by Baritone Soloist Greg Link who played the part of Noah in our performance of Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo. Following this we sang 5 weather themed pieces including ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ and ‘Singing in the Rain’.

## **1. Accounting Policies**
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRSSE) Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective 1 January 2015). The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention on a cash basis.

The Dorothy Curtis Endowment Fund must be used for special events and other one-off items “for the good of the Choir”; it may not be used to cover the Choir’s routine running costs.
