Review of the yearfs activities-
The concert in May 2022 was greatfun. The choirsan8 a completely different programme with Fanshawe's'African
Sanrtus" and Chilcotvs "tsttle Jazz Mu55" This was held in Cheltenham Town Hall with Backbeat Percussion , Claire
Alsop Ipiano), and soloist Claire Rutter I soprano). The Beauregard Youth Choir completed the ensemble.
In October, the thoir welcomed back the Gottinger stsdtkantorei. Due to the pandemic, the choirs had had a longer
than usual break between their visits, so It was especially good to be singing together a8ain, and in wonderful
TewkesburyAbbey. The M02art"Requiem" and Gjeilo'sunrise Mass" made a wonderful pairing. There was a great
line up of soloists,. Katy Crompton Isopranol, Rebecca Afonwy-jones Imezzol. Joseph Doody Itenorl and Geoff
Williams Ibassl. The Regency Sinfonia were back playing with the choirs again and it was wonderful to have both
Bernd Eberhardt and David Crown tonducting.
As well as singing together. there was socialising with host families and, of course. the usual CBC catering team
swung into action to provide a wonderful spread for the party. The Stadtkantorei really enjoy a good dance. and the
ceilidh band ensured that a great time was had by all.
The annual Come and Sing in November. was an opportunity to remember what a fantastic musical tradition there is
in this country. Singing English anthems. some familiar and some new. with Robin Baggs accompanying was an
enjoyable occasion.
It is always a joy to sing "Messiah" at Christmas, and aEthough David Crown must have conducted it hundreds of
time5, he always brings something new. There was a good audience in the Town Hall. The soloist5 were Eleanor
Broomfield Isopranol Annie Reilly {altol. Richard Pinkslone Itenorl and Felix Kemp Ibassl. Regency Sinfonia
accompanied again.
For many of the choir, singing Bach is the perfect musical experience, so perfonning the "St Matthew Passion" in
Tewkesbury Abbey was not to be missed. The choir are very fortunate to have an onBoing relationship with The
Musical and Amicable Society and there was some wonderful obbligato playing. Mark Wilde was a fine Evangelist,
drawing everyone into the drama of the story. Markus Matheis, as Jesus, had great presence and a wonderful warm

tone. Ourother soloists were Alison Langer, Diana Moore. Jonathan Hanley and Adam Maxey. The BeaureEard Youth
Choir san8 the ripieno chorus.
Finances..
The attached financial statements show the current sate of the choirfs finances. The choir achieved a sijrplus of
general income over general expenditure of almost £8.(KKJ. The concert programme however, showed a loss of
£19,5(Xl. Much of this loss was due to an ambitious season of concerts. Expenses for the visit by the Gottinger
Stadtkantorei in the autumn of 2022 and the performance of the St Matthew Passion at Easter 2023 were greater
than expetted. Audience sizes have not been as much of an issue as in 2021-2022.
Overall, the choir made a loss of ££11,6(M). The choirfs totsl available assets on 30, April 2023 were ££5,070 in the
unrestricted General Fund, £13,618 in Caroline's Fund and £31,890 in the Cedric Virgin Fund.
