Review of the yearfs artivities:
Thi5 season has been quite an emotional rollercoasterl With the prospett of lockdown easing in May the
committee made plans for a celebratory concert in Tewkesbury Abbey On￿ to have their hopes dashed yet
agaln by the DDCMS pronouncing that singers could only meet in groups of six indoors. However. the CBC
committee is nothing if not irgenious and they secured the Ridin8 for the Disabled arena at the Racecourse
for our outdoor rehearsals. It is a great tribute to the power and joy of singing that so many people braved
the chilEy evenings.
The autumn marked a retum to indoor singing and relative warmth, although ongoing Covid restrictions
meant that the doors of St Luke's Church were flung wide for ventilation and the choir continued to sing
two metres apart. However, this did not dirnini5h the enjoyment the choir felt at being together again and
rehearsing what was a very special autumn con￿rt. It was a real joy to perfomi an all-mozart programme
after nearly two years of lock dowr￿. The music was glorious- Ave verum corpus and the Mos5 in C Minor.
The choir was joined by the Music31 and Amicable Society orchestra who perfomied the Symphony
number 41 (Jupiter). There were four outstanding soloists, Harriet Bums (soprano), sally Harrison {altol
who kindly stood in at the last minute, Liam Bonthrone {tenorl and James Atkinson Iba$5).
During the run up to the Christmas COn￿rt the dhjir rehearsed for and entered the Classic FM Christmas
carol competition. Although the thoir did not win, there is now have a fine recording of Sir Chnstemas"
and "I wonder as I wonderf.
Preparations for the Christmas cOn￿rt moved on amid the constantly changing situation with Covid. The
programme was to indude pieces with the Flowers Band IDaniel Pinkham and Orla Gjeilol and the

Beauregard Youth Choir. However. Covid got the upper hand and there were iftsufficient singers to make
balan￿d choir. It was ￿lUCtantty conceded at the last rninute that the concert would have to be cancelled.
Rehearsals in the New Year got off to a somewhat slow start as cases of Covid continued to rise and there
was understandably some hesitancy about getting back to rehearsa15. However, the prospert of singing
Bach lured enough people and rehearsals were made as safe as possible. The term culminated in a
wonderful performance of Bach's 8 Minor Moss in the perfect setting of Tewkesbury Abbey. The choir
were joined again by the Musical and Amicable Society whose players treated the audience to some
gorgeous obbligato playin& The soloists We￿ Milly Forrest Isoprano), Rebecca Afon4vy-Jones (contraltol
Henry Ross (tenor} and fimothy Dickinson {bass).
Finan￿S.
The attached financial statements show the current sate of the choirfs finances. The choir achieved a
surplus of general income over genefal expenditure of just over £IO.(KM). The concert proEramme
however, showed a 1055 of £19.iXIO. Some of this loss was due to expenses incurred on cancelled COn￿rts.
but most of the loss was due to considerably lower audience fi8ures than had been experted.
th
Overall, the choir made a loss of £9,8rxJ. The choirfs total avatlable a55ets on 30 April 2022 were £17.990
in the unrestrirted General Fund. £13.0￿ in Caroline's FuThl and £31,1(K) in the Cedric Virgin Fund.
