ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES
The Stsnley Smilh (UK) HortKuhural Trust was set up with the express purpose of furthering the development of
the art and science of horticulture by means of grants paKI oul of the dwid8nd5 from the investment of the inilial
money provided by the found8T (Mrs Bart¥ara de Brye 4th) was the daughter of Stanley Smith). The intention of
thase grants. as defined by Ihe Founder arKI Ihe frsl Director. Sir George Tayfor FRS. was to improve the qualty
of lyjrticurture in all possible ways. Behind this stands ￿ ￿fja of wnF)roving horticutture for the public generally.
and this was and ccrfrtinues to be the main gubding of the Trusfs adbvits8S.
The Trust's procedures laKI d(hvn al Ihe beginnrKJ: thè D*ector miews grant applications received before

Since 1970 grants amounting tt) £3.726.012 (grants and traineesh4)sl have been made, mostly to projects in
