The financial statements have been examined in accordance with the General
Directions given by the Cllarity Commissioners.
Respective responsibilities of the trustrt8 and euminer
The charity's trustees are rynsible for the preparation of the financial statements.
Because of the level of income received by the charity an audit is not required by the
CEwities Act 1993 but an independent examinWon is necessary.
Basis of independent examiner's report
I have carried out an examination in accordance with the General Directions given by
the Charity Commissioners. The examination includes a review of ¢vidence relevant
to the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. It also includes an
assessment of whether the accounting ￿)I]c]eS are appropriate to the charity's
circumstsnces, consistently applied and adequately disclosed.
In Carrying out the examination all the inforn)ation and explanations which are
Considered necessary in order to provide sufficient evidence to give reasonable
assurance that the financial statements are f￿e from material misstatement have been
provided.

In Connection my examination of the accounts for the year ended 5 April 2022,
no matter has come to my attention which gives me Ca￿8¢ to believe that compliance
with the requirements of the Charllties Act IW3 Iw not been met and that the
accounts do refl￿t the charity's State of affairs for the accounting period.

Report of the Trnsttt5 of the Alexander Pigott Wernber Memorial Trust for the
year ended 5 April 2022
The trustees present their report along with the financial statfflnents of the charity for
the year ended 5 April 2022. The fllMi¢ial slatements have been prepared in
accordance with the accounting FK)licies set out on fiDal page and comply with the
applicable law.
ConstitntioD and objeets
The Alexander Pigott Wernher Memorial Tn￿1 is constituted by the Will of the late
Right Honourable Alic¢ Sedgwick Baroness Lwllow dated 2nd January 1946 and is a
registered charity, number 261362.
The objects of the charity laid down in the Will are to provide funds to wist in
research towards the prevention and cure of blindness aDd d¢thess.
Grant making policy
The charity receives applications from the various Institutions including other
charities for donations to assist with funding research projects. These are reviewed
against the specific criteria of the research objectives set out in the Will.
Donations can be made towards research fellowships, relevant research projects
includin8 the purchase of equipment for use with reSea￿h into the prevention or cure
of eye and hearing disorders.
Reviews of the funds available for donations are carried out durin8 the year and
before the end of each accounting period. Durin8 the year ended 5 April 2022, the
Tn￿£¢eS made £50,000 donations from sury)lus fund>
Investwent policy
The Charity follows a prudent ￿}1¢Y of mointsining investments which prnvide
re8ular annual income to fund donations.
Trustees, responsibilities in relation to the fiD2D¢ial statements
Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare
fthancial statements for each financial year which giv¢ a ffiie and fair view of the
charity's financial adivities during the year and of its financial position at the end of
the year. kn preparing those financial slatemenE the trustees are required to:
select suitable accounting po]ici¢s and then apply them consistently:
state whether applicable accounting standards and ststements of recommended
practice have been followed subject to any deparwres disclosed and explained
in the fjnancial statements: and
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is

The trustees are responsible that financial statements comply with Charities Act 1993.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for
taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other
irregularities.
