The trustees, who are directors for the purposes of company law. present the annual
report together with the financial Statement of the charitable Company for the year
ended 30 June 2024.
Obl¢cts and alms
Th8 object for whlch the charity was fomied and its principal aciivity remains the
organisation of a competitlve festival of music, elocution, drama and dance on an
annual basis, and to promote education in these fields. Thls competitive festival,
take8 place each yèar In Februarylmarch at the White Rock Theatre. The charity
aims to provide opportunities and encouragement to performers of all ages. It also
provides SUPPOrt to young people aiming for careers in the performing arts, by uslng
proceeds from the annual festival to provide grants to them. In May 2019 an
addltional fund, th8 Molly Townson Bursary Fund, was established for thls purpose
and received donatlons in memory of our fomier Chair, Molly Townson.
Hastings Musical Festival provides opportunities to prize-winners of the Festival
through organ181ng events and partnerships with other local organisations.
The charfty also aim8 to 8UPPOrt local schools in provldlng performance opportunitle8
for thelr puplls and encouraging participatlon In the perfomlng arts.

In setting the charity'8 obJectlve8 and plannlng its activ5tles, the tnJstee8 have glven
consideration to and complied with the public benefit guidan¢e published by the
Charity Commlsslon for England and Wale?.

The Statement of Financial activiiies 8how8 that expenditure exceed￿ Income by
£ 2,268 (2023: deficit of £2,266> for the year and the Balance Sheet show8 funds of
£88,606.

operational - to which the charrty is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in
place to mitigate Iho8e risks and to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and
error.

The charity aims to diversrfy ts 80urces of furKling which are primarily from its
operats'ons, that induding ticket sales and comwtiion entry fees, private donation8
and grants. The charity actively pursues grants. particularfy from local organisation8,
to 8881st with rts wtreach plans that emphasise ts intxeased partieipation of local
8chool children.

Most ol the comwtitors in the HastiNJs Mu8ical Festival are aged under 18 and
therefore Subject to exlensive child protection requirements. The charity has a t6am
of Child Protection Officers who liaise with the relevant County Counci18 and th8
British International Federalion of Festivals. to ensure that the charity 18 Compliant
wlth the current Interwetation of the law as it applies to festrvals. while al80 lobbying
for greater clarity. Hastings Musical Festival maintains Risk Registers for health and
safety at their events. Procedures are in place to ensure complianc* wilh child
otertion, health arKI safety of staff, volunteers, competitors, adjudlcators and
audience member8.
Operatlonal rfsk
A8 well as the ri8k8 Outlined above, the charity faces additional operational ri8k8,
Induding the risk of unavailability of venues on desired dates, lack of Competitors,
unavailability of adjudicators and reduced audience members. These risks are
rn1t￿ated in the develoFKnent of our strategic plan, which allows for the diversffication
of funding, activi￿8 and venues and in the agile management of our operatiorffj.

I report to the Charity trust¢¢$ on my examination of th¢ accounts of th¢ Company for the
year ended 30 June 2024.

As the charity's trustee5 of th¢ Company (and also its directors for th¢ PUTpose$ of company
law) you are responsibl¢ for ihe preparation of the accounts in a¢¢ordance with the
requirements of the Compani¢s A¢t 2006 ("the 2006 Act.).
Havin8 satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under
Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my
examination of your charity's accounls as wried out under the Charities Act 2011, s, 145
("the 2011 Act"). In carying out my examinaiion I have followed the Directions given by the
Charity Commission und¢r S. 145(5) {b) of the 2011 Act.

{3) the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of se¢tion 396 of

view which 1$ not a matter ¢onsid¢red as part of an independent examination. or

principles of the Statement of Recommended Prnctice for Accounting and
