'Into the WocKls' is a musical by Stephen Sondheirn now being reviv¢d in London. It wond*fulty t811s
the story of how sorne well known characters from English lairy ta18s, lÈke Red Riding Hood, Jack and
Cinder¢lla, go inlts th& woods to sort out their PlOblern5. The show h3¥ lET￿r$. hope and laughter.
A5 1 ventured on¢e or tY•¢e Into Macaroni Woods in tha SLSmmeT, I thought that Oxford and District
M8ncap could put on just as good a show as a big London theatrel And it wouldn't be just a fairy tal8.
72 guests and 90 volunteers w8nt Into those woods for a holiday this y88r. No-on8 hi¢J the problems
and the teaTS that Can come with them, but th8y were far outshone by the laughter. the friend5hlps. the
kindness and the wamith found deep amory the trees along with the chickens and th& peacocks. The
woods are not easy to find but worth hi when you gel Ih¥ie.
ArKI once you make It back home and b8ck inlo the everyday worfd. all is not lost as tha Tuesday night
dub in Headington opens it5 door8 èvèry week to welcome you.
None ol this could happen wrthoul our guests. staff. voluntèers, carers, funders and lots of events to
r815e the wind. A very big thank you all rtsund.
But ts¥o people stsnd out in the story of th¢s year as they havg done for many years. They a￿ Julia and
Bruce F8irbairn who 6adtyfor us rètire in January 2026. Where to begin and Wh8￿ lo end in saying
trank you to them is difft¢uIL Julia in so many adminlstrative and practical ways has made sure Ihose
wond8rful holidays in the woods hawe happened and been a sucn a success, whilst Bruce has worked
hard on the nol always 8xcits.ng jobs of arranging meetings, wriling up minutes. keeping an ey8 on what
the trustees are UP to- and nèed lo be up tol b8sides being at Julia's side as they h8ve organised
fvnd raising events like tne magnifiLent dinner in Novembcr and the ChriStrn￿$ Darty for 120 In
December. Many people18ave a hole when we say good-by8, but Bruce and Julia will leave a very big
holB indead. W9 owe thgm an immens8 debt of gralilude and wtsh Ihem wall in the nexi part of their
journey togeth8r Tom and their famity.
r grabtude also goes lo Eamonn Mcdonald as he retires, mainly for health rèasons. For 8 years as
Treasurer Earnonn has looked after our financi81 affairs which, even lor a srnall ch8rity, reqUI￿S a lair
amount of work includln9 hia Lareful book-kaepin9, budgeting and reporbng to IhA Irust88S.
During the year thè tNStaos have met on a regular basis, received financial reports and made sure
budgets and poli¢ies ware in place. Succession issues, induding recruiting new truste8s, a secretary
and a treasurer, are high on the agenda, mada easser by th8 willirgness of a number ol a younger
generat￿n of volunteers to st9P UP.

oonerous qrant5 and donations, we look forward to the future.

The Trustees have set a reserve5 poli¢y which requ1￿5 rèserves to be maintained at a level which
gnsures that twelve months of the organisalion's core activity could coniinue during a period of
unforeseen difficulty. A proportion of those reserves to be maintained in a readily real￿sable form.
The calculation of the requlred levèl of reserves is an integra1 part of the organisatKJn'5 planning. budgot
and forecast cycle. It tskes into account the risks associated wrth each stroam of Income and
expendiiure. ploiined aGtivity level and future ctsmmitrnents
The Trustees beI￿ve that at present the amount n8eded to be held in rèserve5 is £60,000. This figu
will bg rèviewAd on a six monthly basis in order for the amount of ￿SerVeS to be maintained at
reasonablg level.

voluntèers from Oxloré Mencèp In alteriLlanGe 10 generally organiBè. provide
refreshments and help with bingo. Scott Ellis provides Iw81y mu51¢ and even livelier blngo
3sions. We enjtsy Ih•med ovènings foT Valentine's Day, Pancake Day. Easier,
Christrn&s and the rnuch-loved Halloween, wilh people In $c8ry costumes competing in
the spookiest dancè move competition. Several times a yèar the Oxlord Playhouse
thèatre invltes rnembers to shows. including the Christmas pantomirne, free of charg8,
and we ara v8ry grateful to thern for this.

We retumed to Macaronl Woo(1 for our hollday3 2025. The gueal¥ 8nd vtsluntgers
appreciate the venue which has comfortable accommodation and good facilities. It Is in a
rural locats.on in Ihg Cotswold$ in a wooded area. Ther8 are p3ths into the wooded a￿8,
and one designed lor wh80lchair use. Our guests have on8 day when they take part in on
SLtg activitias. hiit Dn all the other days they are tak8n by minibuses to a different activity-
This could be. Swimming. bowling, a theme park or a zoo or a Tiver trip. In evenings
th8 guests lake part in talent eontests, a disco and campfire sirging and usually have
pub trip. For some of the holiday weeks we hlre a Goach for a big trip in the middle of the
holiday week, $0 thal our guests can be rrKJre wmfortable for lh8 longer journey and all
travel with wr resident meLIIc.
W8 took 72 guests on holiday in surnrner 2025 over 5 separate holiday wgeks. We have
total uf 90 wolunteers inGluding medicts for gach w@gk. leaders. cooks and a team of
minibus driver5. Each of our guesls has Iheir own volun18er to support them and help
ern to engage in the activities. Eaeh of our weeks has slightly different guests by age or
level of support required. On8 of our weeks takes people with profound autism who need
2 volunteers lo keep thom safe and able to participate in activities. Many in this group
have been coming for years and have friendshSps wiy) other guests and volunteers.

We used Iha 8am8 vanue for the Chrfstmas party 2025- Ihe Jubilee Hall at StAndrews
There were èround 110 guests which Included holiday and 70'clock club guests, some
th ¢arors/ parents and som8 volunte8r5.
Wg provided a buffet supper which was served to the guests. There was a disco,
magician and a visit from Father Christmas who came with a gift for all the guests. There
was a lol of d8ncSng, and an enjoyable tsme was had by all.
