Report on Mark Benevolent Fund Accounts for the Year Ended 31[st] August 2022
Our income for the year was dominated by a substantial legacy of £25,000 from the Estate of Mrs Doreen M Allen, the widow of a former Mark Mason. This remains outstanding at present awaiting the grant of probate. Our usual sources of income showed an increase of some £1,200 following the resumption of the Annual Meeting in May 2022 which provided us with the usual collection. There remained an absence of fundraising activities but remittances from Lodges remained consistent with the previous year. There were delays in the income tax reclaim with the 2020/21 repayment received shortly after the year end and the 2021/22 claim will be submitted shortly.
The tragic death of the Assistant Grand Master, Steve Davison, saw a donation of £1,000 in his memory from Provincial Grand Masters of Mark Provinces. Our own donation, and monies from some Lodges, was added to this in donating to Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Steve’s memory.
Grants made in the year totalled a further £12,000 maintaining the very substantial increase of the previous year. This comprised the Mark Province’s final contribution to the 2022 Craft Festival, a significant donation in support of the Ukrainian people and several local charities. Our own Fund continues to support Sister Provinces who are in Festival and this year it was West Yorkshire who benefitted. The Fund also supports the activities of our Provincial Almoner. The Trustees continue to look at supporting worthwhile local causes and would welcome suggestions from the brethren.
The surplus for the year has been added to the Unrestricted Funds brought forward which now total £50,838 the majority of which is represented by the legacy receivable and deposits held at the National Westminster and HSBC Banks and the Market Harborough Building Society.
I record my grateful thanks to the Account Examiners, W Bros Elliot Harris, and Christopher Packham.

We the undersigned, having been appointed account examiners, report that we have examined the books and records maintained by the Treasurer, and confirm that the accounts as presented agree therewith.
In connection with our examination no matter has come to our attention which has given us reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements to keep accounting records and prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records have not been met, or to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
