Section A Objectives and activities
Objectives
Aufgabe der Gemeinde ist die Förderung der christlichen Glaubens in deutscher Sprache.
Dies geschieht durch Gottesdienste, Gemeindekreise, Samstagsschule und durch Seelsorge in deutscher Sprache.
Im Rahmen ihrer zeitlichen und finanziellen Möglichkeiten kümmert sich die Gemeinde auch um das Wohl von Deutschsprachigen, die nicht Mitglied der Gemeinde sind.
Die Gemeinde steht in der Tradition der Reformation Martin Luthers. Sie versteht sich jedoch als Teil der ökumenischen Bewegung, die die Zusammenarbeit und Versöhnung zwischen Deutschen und Engländern fördert.
The mission of the church is to promote the Christian religion and German language.
This is effected by means of church services, church groups, Saturday school and pastoral care in the German language.
Where time and finances permit, the church also engages in the care of German speakers who are nonmembers.
The church is part of an ecumenical movement to promote co-operation and reconciliation between Germany and England.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects
Nach der Aufhebung der Einschränkungen durch die Pandemie fanden wieder regelmäßig deutschsprachige Gottesdienste in Birmingham und Coventry statt. Daran nahmen Deutsche und Briten unterschiedlicher konfessioneller Herkunft teil.
Zweimal im Monat findet eine Samstagsschule für Familien mit jüngeren Kindern in Birmingham statt.
In Birmingham traf sich außerdem regelmäßig einmal im Monat ein Jugendkreis.
Der Pastor und ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiter der Gemeinde hielten durch Besuche und Telefonate Kontakt zu älteren Mitgliedern, die Gemeindeveranstaltungen auch nach der Pandemie nicht mehr persönlich besuchen konnten.
Als besondere ökumenische Veranstaltungen fanden zum Beispiel ein Gottesdienst am Remembrance Sunday auf dem Deutschen Soldatenfriedhof in Cannock Chase und ein Weihnachtsgottesdienst an Heilig Abend in der Kirche St. Martin in the Bull Ring in Birmingham statt.
In Coventry ist die Gemeinde in der ökumenischen Chapel of Unity der Coventry Cathedral engagiert. Dort fanden im Laufe des Jahres ebenso mehrere gemeinsame ökumenische Gottesdienste statt.
After the restrictions imposed by the pandemic were lifted, regular monthly German-language services were again held in Birmingham and Coventry. Germans and Britons of different denominational backgrounds took part.
Twice a month there is a Saturday school for families with younger children in Birmingham.
A youth group also met regularly once a month in Birmingham.
The pastor and church volunteers kept in touch through visits and phone calls with older members who were unable to attend church events in person even after the pandemic.
Special ecumenical events included a Remembrance Sunday service at the German Military Cemetery in Cannock Chase and a Christmas Eve service at St Martin's Church in the Bull Ring in Birmingham.
In Coventry, the congregation is involved in the ecumenical Chapel of Unity at Coventry Cathedral. Several joint ecumenical services were also held there during the year.
Section B Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Die Präsenzgottesdienste in Birmingham und Coventry waren gemessen an der Mitgliederzahl der Gemeinde gut besucht.
Im Anschluss an die Gottesdienste konnte in Birmingham wieder regelmäßig Kirchenkaffee zum Austausch und zur persönlichen Begegnung stattfinden.
Neben den Gottesdiensten gabe es das ganze Jahr durchgehend weitere wöchentliche online Veranstaltungen auf ZOOM, in der Passionszeit und in der Adventszeit sogar jeweils zweimal in der Woche.
The services in Birmingham and Coventry were well attended in relation to the number of members of the congregation.
Following the services, regular church coffee was again held for exchange and personal encounters.
In addition to the services, there were other weekly online events on ZOOM throughout the year, even twice a week during Lent and Advent.
Section C Financial review
Die Rücklagen sind überwiegend in einem gemanagten Aktienfond angelegt. Grundsätzlich sollten sie nur als Kapitalgrundstock verwendet werden. Das Vermögen reicht aus, um die Gemeindearbeit längerfristig weiterzuführen.
Financial reserves are mainly invested in a managed share fund. They are basically to be used as capital, with only the profits being used for the work of the charity.
Das ehemalige Pfarrhaus „Arche“ war 2022 vermietet und trug trotz notwendiger Investitionen zur Finanzierung des Haushalts bei.
The former vicarage “Arche” was let in 2022 and contributed to church finances.

Trustee selection methods
Der Kirchenvorstand hat die Funktion der Trustees. Er wird von der Gemeindeversammlung gewählt. Der von der Gemeinde gewählte und von der Synode angestellte Pfarrer ist kraft Amtes Mitglied des Kirchenvorstands.
The church committee members are the trustees. They are elected by the General Assembly. The pastor, elected by the congregation and appointed by the Synod, is an ex officio member of the committee.
Additional governance issues
Die Gemeinde ist Mitglied der Evangelischen Synode Deutscher Sprache in Großbritannien und von ihr einem Pfarramtsbereich zugewiesen. Sie ist an die Regelungen gebunden, die sich aus dieser Mitgliedschaft ergeben.
Die Gemeinde muss die finanziellen Verpflichtungen gegenüber der Synode und dem Pfarramtsbereich erfüllen und unterliegt der Finanzaufsicht der Synode. Sie sollte ihre Ausgaben nur vorübergehend durch Rücklagenentnahmen finanzieren.
The church is a member of the Synod of German-Speaking Lutheran, Reformed and United Congregations in Great Britain, which allots it to a pastoral region (PAB). This subjects the church to the Synod’s regulations.
The church must fulfil the financial obligations of the Synod, and its finances are overseen by the Synod. It is only permitted to use assets for financing in exceptional cases for a limited period.

Die Abrechnung ist ok. Keine Fehler oder offensichtliche Probleme. Gut gemacht!
Unsere Fonds waren dieses Jahr wohl weniger erfolgreich. Da sollten wir ein Auge darauf haben. Ich persoehnlich glaube, dass hier zuviel in der UK investiert wird. Aus bekanntem Grunde (B-word) ist das vielleicht nicht die erfolgversprechende Art das Geld unserer Kirche zu investieren.
