Aims and Purposes
The Society is established for public benefit in the Bristol BS8 area to a) promote high standards of planning & architecture in BS8, b) educate the public in the geography, history, natural history & architecture of BS8, c) secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of historic environmental & public interest in BS8.
How the charity helps
Makes Grants to Organisations, Provides Human Resources and Provides Advocacy/advice/information. Liaises with Bristol City Council on decisions that affect the area whether detrimental or not. Sends a quarterly newsletter in hard copy to all members to keep them all informed and plan 4/5 events for members to share.
Achievements
During the past 12 months the Society has refurbished existing projects and embarked on new and provided a new Notice Board situated outside the local library. We took a local planning application to a judicial review but sadly lost the case however was given financial support from the members to offset the legal costs. The Charity continues to support ongoing projects working with local councillors to ensure the best possible outcome for the area including refuse issues, restoration of a Children’s playground, night time licensing and traffic flow.
Financial Review
The accounts show a deficit for the period 1[st] September 22 to 31[st] August 23 of £15572 which is partially due to the legal costs (£31137) with respect to the judicial review although offset due to the generosity and pledges from our members (£25220). This increase in 22/23 will The subscriptions achieved were £5151, a legacy of £2005 and sundry income of £2808 were gratefully received. A belated Gift Aid claim for 21/22 and the Gift Aid Claim for 22/23 were both credited after the financial which will return the available funds to a workable and proactive level.
Structure and Governance
Monthly meetings are convened with occasional invited guests on the first Tuesday and the AGM is held in October.

I report on the accounts for the period ending 31.08.23
Basis of the examiner’s report
It is my responsibility to examine the accounts and state any irregularities that come to my attention listed on pages 3 and 4.
My examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity in consideration of the accounts presented as well as any unusual items seeking an explanation from the trustees if those matters arise.
Independent examiner’s statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention and suggest that the accounts have been clearly and precisely raised in accordance with the wishes of the trustees.
