Cambridge University Rifle Association (CURA)
Registered Charity 258396
Trustees’ Annual Report: Year to 31 October 2024
Purpose
Cambridge University Rifle Association’s overarching purpose is the advancement of amateur sport for the public benefit by encouraging and developing full-bore target shooting within the University of Cambridge. It principally does this by organizing training and coaching sessions, and fielding teams to represent the University of Cambridge in matches against the University of Oxford and other teams, in the disciplines of target rifle and match rifle. It is a Home Office approved rifle club, and is affiliated to the National Rifle Association, the sport’s governing body.
Structure and Management
Day-to-day management of the Charity is by a committee of student members. The Charity’s Trustees (currently four, as listed on the Charity’s entry on the Register of Charities) are appointed by the student members; one is a Senior Member of the University of Cambridge, the others are Alumni.
Key achievements
The annual Easter training week was attended by 23 student members, of whom 17 were new to the Association. A significant proportion went on to compete in the National Rifle Association’s annual match rifle and target rifle championships. CURA was narrowly beaten by the University of Oxford in the Humphry (the annual match rifle varsity match), but won the Chancellors (target rifle varsity match) by a convincing margin. Four members got through to the Second Stage of the prestigious HM The King’s Prize, with one proceeding to the Final. Many members were selected to represent their respective counties in intercounty competitions, and three were selected to represent England in the Universities National Match.
Financial Review
The Charity’s annual accounts have been prepared and independently examined.
