Meet Spud
Meet Walter & Daisy
This little guy was found in a field at just 6 weeks old with a life threatening head injury.
A local veterinary nurse looked after him for us and he is now full of character in his forever home.
They were found separately in a matter of days and immediately recognised each other. We were so lucky to rehome them together and they are loving their new life.
BRANCH HIGHLIGHTS
Welcome to the 2025 Annual report of the Basingstoke & Andover Branch of the RSPCA.
We exist as a Charity to improve and safeguard the lives of vulnerable animals. This report tells the story – in numbers, words, and pictures – of our activities and achievements during 2025. We continue to operate in a challenging financial environment which is particularly difficult for small branches, like ours, that don’t have an animal centre. This means that Trustee focus during 2025 has continued to be on income generation, cost reduction, and options for merger with another Branch.
The two cooperation agreements we signed with local branches are both now generating welcome income. The first was with North Wilts who are paying us a percentage of the profits from their Andover charity shop. The second was with Alton, Haslemere and Petersfield branch for whom we deliver rehoming services.
In our last Annual Report, we explained that we were formally consulting with other local branches about a merger with another Branch to secure our future and to ensure that we can provide the best possible support to vulnerable animals in our area. That process is now well advanced, and we are deep into merger negotiations with North Wilts to create a new unified branch for North Wiltshire, West Berkshire, and North Hampshire. We hope to be in a position shortly where we can invite members to vote on the merger.
The Committee would like to thank all the staff and volunteers that have worked for the
Branch during 2025 for the benefit of the animals that came into our care. We rely massively on Mandy, our rehoming coordinator, who always goes above and beyond in carrying out her duties. She in turn is supported by a network of volunteers for fostering, fundraising, vet trips, home checks, and post home checks.
Our incredible team of volunteers do such a wonderful job, and we couldn't do it without them.
Particular thanks go
to...
Our newest volunteers to the branch: Rachel, Rebecca, Emma, Stevi, Robin, Kayley and Nikki. All our existing and new volunteers who foster cats and support our fundraising events.
Sarah and Alison also manage kitten hand rearing and the more challenging cats. Caz manages our Facebook page. Jo handles our enquiries line. Trish, Tanya, Steve, Mary lu foster in Andover. David, Bruce, Sarah, Nikki, Paula, Patrick and Nina provide foster homes for our dogs in need. Our fundraisers are: Nina, Angela, Sarah. Rhian, Caz, Paula, Patrick, Emma, Amelia and Lindley.
Trustee Changes
Dan Hubert stepped down from the Committee at the 2025 AGM. We are grateful to him for his work and for sticking with us to ensure we had sufficient Trustees to be viable. We welcomed two new Trustees during 2025. Craig Stokes joined the Committee in January and Bob Whelpton in June.
ANIMAL WELFARE
We exist as a Charity to improve and safeguard the lives of vulnerable animals. The following sections look at the Branch’s achievements during 2025, with comparable figures for 2024. Mandy James, the Branch’s Re-homing Coordinator, has led this work with support from other Trustees and volunteers, most notably, Sarah Biro.

A lady contacted us about Charlie, who had a really bad neck wound. Our team were able to trap him and took him to the vets.
Our team have rescued, hand reared and rehomed a number of cute, playful kittens throughout 2025.
The lady contacted the team, asking to look after for him. After months of dedicated care, Charlie is doing really well and has found his forever home with the lady that cared for him.
Neutering Scheme
The RSPCA and local vets jointly run the restricted Neutering Scheme.
Members of the public on specified income related benefits can pay for a voucher to neuter their pets at approximately one third of the actual cost. The RSPCA contributes a further one third and the participating vets contribute the final third as a discount when the pets are neutered.
The number of animals neutered is shown in the table below:

The cost of the scheme to the Branch in 2025 appears in the Annual Accounts as £3,384 (£10,396 in 2024) which is totally vets fees. This is offset by an income of £1,654 (£5,267 in 2024) which comes from the people who use the scheme.
The neutering scheme continued to be funded in 2025 by the grant from the
RSPCA Regional Fund received in 2023. However, the funds were exhausted at the end of 2025, and, due to financial constraints, there is no plan to continue the scheme in 2026.
An agreement between the RSPCA and The Cats Protection League (CPL) allows the Branch to refer all requests for the neutering of cats to the CPL. However, for a short period in 2024 the CPL was unable to accept any referrals; the Branch issued 15 vouchers for cats in this period.
