Branch Annual Re ort 2025 The Nottinghamshire East Branch is an unincorporated charitsble association and a separatety registered charity. We are a Branch of the National RSPCA and as such, are governed under the RSPCA Rules for Branches. The animal welfare work that we undertake is carried out within our designated Branch area," this includes the towns of Ollerton. Southwell. Retford and Newark and the surrounding villages. In accordance with the rules and policies of the RSPCA, we believe our continued aims to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals have been met. Trustees govern the Branch and are elected each year at the Branch Annual General Meeting. New Trustees are recruited from member5 and sUPPOrters. Vacancies are advertised on the National Society and other Volunteer recruitment websites. Potential new trustees are informed of their responsibilities prior to their acceptance of the role and an on-line induction course is now available. Further help and guidance is given, if needed, by the current Trustees and the Branch Partnershbp Manager. Until recently this position was held by Kim Forman, who left the National Society just before the end of the year. We would like to thank Kim for the help and guidance she has always gfven us and we send our best Wlshes to her for the future. Our Trustee meetings which take place at least every two months, the Branch finances and activities are discussed and reviewed as necessary. The day-t(HJay running of the Branch is delegated to the Branch Business Support Offir, Tracy Evans. Regular reviews are also made of Branch Governance and Poltcies to identify any potential risks and to safeguard these can be dealt with. This also ensures that we are up to date with and compliant with guidelines issued by the Charities Commission. The following report gives further details on how the Trustees consider they have complied with their duties under the Charities Act of 2011, having due regard to the public benefrt guidan published by the Charities Commission.

Animal Welfare Throughout the year we were able to continue with the aims of the Branch, to provide and promote antmal welfare. Locally, this is done through our voucher scheme, offering assistance with veterinary costs to help those on a reduced income or receiving income support. Whilst most pet owners manage the day to day expense of having a pet many struggle with the additional costs that any sudden veterinary surgery visit may bring. With the rising cost of veterinary treatment many find it difficult to finan even a consultation fee. Again. this year we were able to offer help with this cost, this at least ensures that pets are seen at a vet surgery. In some cases, this is extended to assist with extra funding towards further treatment costs and medication that may be required. We are fortunate that we continue to have good relationships with most of the veterinary practices in our Branch area. this Is of huge benefit. We rely on their advice and support to ensure that the animals in most need of our help will receive it. We also still offer assistsnce towards the cost of neutering for owned animals, as the Trustees rna1n committed to this k)ng term Branch policy, which we beIve continues to be an important part of promoting good animal welfare. Sadly, again due to rising veterinary cost this is something that many pet owners struggle with. The Branch maintains its financial support to the Radcliffe Animal Centre, through our yearly contribution for boarding and veterinary treatment. This is for expenses incurred by the animals taken there by RSPCA Inspectors and Animal Welfare OffirS from within our Branch area. Although limited in the way we are able to offer support to the Centre we also help by delivering the many donated items of pet food. treats. blankets and towels that are brought to our Newark shop by generous members of the public. Branch Actlvitles: The Branch charity shop on Albert Street in Newark remains our main source of income. Unfortunatety, as can be seen by the Branch Year End Accounts this income has greatly reduced. This could be due to several factors. Many people now choose to sell their unwanted items through online selling sites. This has redUd the amount of goods being donated, not just to our shop but other local charities are a150 experiencing this- especially relating to clothing.

The impact can be seen here as three well known tharity shops have recently closed. Sadly, as in many other towns around the country, Newark no longer offers the number of high street shops it did in the past and many are now empty. this ha5 resulted in huge decline in visitors to the town. The high increase in household expenditure. including food prices and utility bills, may also be an influen. However, our small band of volunteers remaFn dedicated to ensuring that the shop is always well stocked, clean and welcoming to customers. The Trustees would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to them for giving up their valuable time and the countless hours of hard work to support the Branch shop. We are fortunate that the two new volunteers who joined us last year have already become valuable team members. At the beginning of the year, sadly, an important member of our shop team moved out of our area and is no longer able to assist in this way. However, we are very fortunate that Sheila has kindly agreed to remain a supporter of the Branch, by continuing to be a Branch Trustee and is now "virtuallf attendin8 meetings. Her husband, Mike, has retired from his position as Trustee and we would like to pass on our grateful thanks for all the years that he was invofved with, and the many ways in which he supported the Branch. The shop revenue is supplemented by the sale of more valuable items. that have been donated to us, through the Newark Chapel Antique Center. This has provided a steady income throughout the year and items are sold for more than we would expect to receive for them at the shop. Although outside fundraising events are fewer now than in the past, we continue to attend the annual Christmas event in Newark and also take part in Christmas Tree Festivals in our area. While these are not huge fundraisers, they are helpful for promoting the Branch and our local animal Welfa work Summa Regular-virtual" meetings take place which enable Trustees to ensure that all of their responsibilities are being met. These include the keeping of proper accounting records, which accurately reflect, the financial position of the charity and that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguafding the assets of the charity and for taking reasonable steps for prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Funding received from the National Society Door-tO-Door initiative gave our reserves a boost, but this source of income may not continue and the Trustees are still aware thi5 should not be relied on. However. the Branch reserves remain strong and with the regular and careful monitoring of the Branch finances we remain confident that we will be able to continue responding favourably to the appeals for our help with veterinary cost& A serious issue for us. and facing many charities. is the recruitment and retention of Trustees. In the new year we hope to begin the process of the Branch becoming a Charitsble Incorporated Organisation which we hope will make joining us more appealing to potential new Trustees. Due to the age of our premises in Newark, sadly repair work is a nece553ry evil. Unfortunately. funds will need to be directed to ensure that the buildin8 IS maintained and continues to be fit for purpose as our office and more importantly our main fundraiser. We hope this work will begin in the spring of next year. In conclusion. although no -hands on" animal welfare work is undertaken by the Branch, the Trustees are confident that the level of work done in our Branch area, through our Voucher Scheme assisting with veterinary costs, remains important. They look forward to continuing with this during the next year, and to maintaining the support we a able to give to the Radcliffe Animal Centre. We would like to thank the staff there, and also the RSPCA Inspectors and Animal Welfare Officers for their dedication and hard work in rescuing and rehabilitsting vulnerable animals.
