Trustees’ Annual Report for the period
From 01/01/2020 To 31/12/2020
Charity name: East Ruston Village Hall
Charity registration number: 255720
Objectives and Activities
The object of the charity is the provision and maintenance of a village hall for use by the inhabitants of the area of benefit without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for:
- a) Meetings, lectures and classes, and b) Other forms of recreation and leisure time occupation,
with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants.
This year also included the start of a refurbishment programme which coincided with the hall being closed for COVID reasons.
We confirm the trustees have taken regard to charity commission guidance for the public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
This year the village hall was closed for a large period due to COVID restrictions on gatherings. However, a refurbishment programme was in progress and the trustees achieved a remarkable amount of work to get the village hall up to a new standard. The following items took place:
-
a) The old leaky roof was completely replaced
-
b) The Cupola was renovated
-
c) Guttering and downpipes were all repaired or replaced
-
d) The whole building had new insulation and rendering all round
-
e) New entrance doors were supplied and fitted
-
f) The interior of the hall was redecorated throughout
-
g) The floor was stripped and renewed in a hardwearing finish
-
h) The kitchen was replaced and updated
-
i) New chairs & tables were purchased
The hall has now reopened and is hosting several regularly weekly events, as well as now receiving bookings for one off events. The feedback from the general public has been very complimentary. Regular bookers are extremely pleased with the work that has taken place, the hall is a warmer and more friendly environment for people to use. People who do not visit the hall regularly have commented about how surprised they are when seeing the new hall, and the huge improvements that have taken place.
Financial Review
Annual Accounts have been completed and are due for submission to the Charity Commission.
Donations and grants in excess of £44,000 were received this financial year.
Just over £74,000 was spent this financial year on the refurbishment of the hall.
Closing balance was a healthy £21,549.14.
Gift Aid has been received but not yet claimed as we have registered with HMRC but are still awaiting them to complete our application, this is taking much longer than anticipated.
