Objectlves and Activities
The objects are to support the health and wellbein9 of persons who are patients or
f ormer patients at the Mount Vernon Hospital by providing catering services, goods
and other amenities which facilitate the effective runniry of the hospital for the
public benef it.
The Comforts Fund operotes a shop, which provides a variety of sof t drinks,
confectionery. toiletries, novelties. newspapers and stationery to patients, staff and
VISitors. The Fund also operates a'Look in. shop which sells domted goods, mainly
clothes and bric-a-brac. There is also a well-used Bookshop adjacent to the Shop and
occupational therapy aids are on sale in response to demand f rom patients visiting the
site.
The Comforts Fund uses f unds raised through the obove octivities to make grants to
the Hospital Trusts and Charities operating on the Mount Vernon Hospital Site to
f und amenities ¢]nd facilities that will support the effective opemtion of these
activities f or the public benef it.
The Trustees conf irm that they have regard to Charity Commission guidance on public
benef it in undertaking the above activities.
The Comforts Fund is a volunteer led Charity. all our outlets are operated by
volunteers.
There were 37 Grants approved during the year totallitvj £128.9k. these vary greatly
in size ond scale and the largest 6 6ronts approved by monetary value were , £24.7k
for a Ultrasound Machine in Physiotherapy, £18.5k for 12 Transit Wheelchairs for
the Cancer centre, £16k for 2 Tympanometers for Paediatric Audiology. £IOk for a
Specialist Bath for Michael Sobell House. £7.8k for Garden Furniture for a Garden
Project at the Cancer Centre and £6.5k for a Canulotion Chair at Paul Strickland
Scanner centre.
Achievements. perfonnonc¢ and futur¢ plans
Our total sales increased by 8% on the previous year to £95.192 (2025 £88,145).
The Trustees consider this to be a good level of performance.
The grants approved by the Fund to departments at Mount Vernon Hospital and
Charities based on the Site. in the year were £128.876 (2025 £166.174), which again

exceeds the f unds generated in the year and ref lects the desire of the Trustees to
reduce the overall level of reserves and utilise f unds to improve facilities on the site.
This resulted in a pipeline of commitments at the year-end of £62,917 (£65,708 in
2025).
The Comforts Fund makes a difference to the Mount Vernon Hospital Site, by
operatin9 Outlets on the site that provide facilities for staff and patients visiting the
site which improve their overall experience and by raising funds which ore then
reinvested in the f acilities available on the Site.
The outlook for our operations remains positive and the Trn￿tee$ would like to thank
all our volunteers for their tireless ef forts and loyalty. The Charity is conf ident that
it continues to have a usef ul future at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Flnancial review
The activities of the fund remain robust with Sales Turnover up by 870 on the year at
£95,192 (2025 £88,145) and Surplus f rom Trading activities down by 1279 on the
yeor at £43,261 (2025 £49,183). The major factor in the reduction this year was due
to a decision to increase administrator costs so that the of f ice would be open on 3
days eoch week. Investment Income at £10.919 (2025 £12,812) was down largely
ref lectiThJ reduced investment holdings due to the increased grant activity mentioned
earlier, with interest rates sli9htly lower on average during the year. Overall this WQS
a steady achievement with a surplus before grants of £60.434 (2025 £63,571).
Amounts requested by the Hospital stof f during the year led to gross awords of
£128,876 (2025 £166,174) although after cancellations of prior year awards that
lapsed this became net awards of £97.945 (2025 £147.745) expensed in the year
and outstanding commitments at the year-end of £62,917 (2025 £65.708) bein9
approved for investment in new equipment and focilities.
The overall impact of these activities was a def icit on the Statement of Financial
Activities for the year of (£37,511) (2025 (£84.174)) ref lecting a Solid underlying
f inancial performance. The Trustees continue to work constructively with the
Hospital authorities to identify opportunities to invest in improving the facilities on
the Mount Vernon Hospital site.
Policy on reseThes
The Fund's policy on reserves is to retain suf f icient workiw capital to operate its
activities eff iciently and meet its ongoirg obligations in the event of unforeseeable
interruption to its activities. In current circumstances it is considered this could be
met by the retention of £50.OCK) in accumulated unrestricted reserves. Our reserves
at £214,102 (2025 £251,613) comfortably exceed our minimum requirement and
places the Fund in a Strong position to weather the heodwinds facing the UK economy

and supports the efforts of Trustees to make 9rants exceeding the income
generated during the year. The Trustees plan to continue reducing the reserves year
on year os suitable gr(Int opportunities arise. There are currently no designated or
restricted f unds held.
Plans for future periods
The Trustees are aware that there are plans beiNJ developed by the NHS to relocate
the current Cancer Centre to a new site in Wafford. There are also plans to rebuild
Hillingdon Hospital which are progressing. Both of these maior developments would
impact the hospitol services that are currently located on the Mount Vernon Hospltal
Site. The Trustees will continue to monitor these developments. but in the meantime
remain committed to serving the patients using the Mount Vernon Hospltal Site.
The Mount Vernon Hospital Comf orts Fund is governed by Rules adopted by the
Charity in General Meeting. It is an unincorporated association. Trustees are elected
by Members at each Annual General Meeting in accordance with its rules. Trustees
Can serve a maximum of 3 terms of 3 years.
Trustee Board
The Trustee Board has seen two resignation duriThJ the year of Robert Elkeles and
John Laycock, and the appointment of two new Trustees. Julia Gilbert and Sidney
Leon Lewis. The Board of Trustees would like to place on record our thanks to Robert
and John for their signif icant contribution to the Charity during their time as
Trustees. Following the resignation of Robert Elkeles as Chair of Trustees, the
Trustee Board appointed Gillian Andrew and Charis Burland as Co-chairs of the Board
whilst a recruitment process was undertaken to identify a new Chair. This process will
conclude in time f or the upcoming A6M when a new Chair will be proposed for
