Report of the Trustses for the year ended 31 December 2024
Objectives
The Charity objectives are in the furtherdnce of religious aud othei charitabl¢ work of the Church of
England in the Parish of Whitchurch Canoni¢orum with Stanton St Gabriel and Fishpond.
Main activities
The Charity has been supporting the work of the church by paying for thc maintenance of the fabric at St
Candida and Holy Cross including the tower, the floor, and improvemcnts to enhance use of the bllildtng
for services e.g., the kitch¢n f￿1]Itics, so that refreshments after services, cono¢rt5 and fund raising events
cam be better provided.
The Trustees have Consider￿ the Charity Commission's guidance on publi¢ bcncfit and in particular, the
specific guidance on ¢harities for the advancement of religion.
Aehievements and perform*nce
The TnJst¢¢s met twice in 2024 with Rev Virginia Luck¢tt as Chair.
The Charity has Continued to use Income from its invc5tm¢nts and the rental of two small fields in
Whilchurch lo make granls to churches wtthin the Parish of St Candida and Holy Cross, Whitchurch
Canonicorum with St Gabriel& Morcombeiake and St John, Fishp)nd.
Grants were mad¢ to St Candida and St Gabriel's for church Insu[￿ce and to St Candida for roof alami
maintenance plus repairs to a wat¢r heater, external lantern, and the church path together with an asbestos
survey and architects, inspection.
A new income ￿ltS account that was opened in 2023 and restricted to the emergency repairs of St
Candida, generated an additional £9,350 of income for the Charity during the year.
Following the openingof 8 second new income generating account in 2023 an additional income of £5,318
was raised during the year. Thi5 additional unrestricted incolne is planned for the Charilies objective of
'Furthering the religious and other charitable WOTk of the Church of England in the Parish,.
This new unrestricted income provides an exciting opportunity for th¢ Charity to cxtend ils grant D]aking
to organisations in the local communiiy.
In particul￿, the t￿Stee$ will be looking to provide grdnts in the fiJtyr¢ that support Work in the parish
that tn¢cts at least one of the following rriteria=
Alleviating isolation and loncliness
Supporting young pei>ple aged 10 to 16 to flourish
C¢l¢brating and promoting St Candida and Holy Cross as a site of pilgnmage
Work will continue to identify r¢¢ipi¢nts for the new grants alld put in place the stw¢tur¢s necessary to
manage the grnnt applications process and a public meeting to launch the new fund is being planned for
spring 2025.

As a resuli of the higher invesknent in¢om¢ foT th¢ y¢￿, there was a SUTplus on the unrestri¢i¢d ￿nd of
£16.422 (2023.. £14,406). The unrestricted ￿lldS on 31 December 2024 wer¢ £35,435 (2023.. £19,013)

The endowment ￿ndS amounted to £1,235.682 on 31 December 2024, an increase of £40.495 on the
opening balance of £1,195,187.
Reserves
The Charity aims to protect its reserves and only use the income derived from investment of the capital
res¢rves {interest and dividends etc) to fund requests for grants.
Structure, governince and minagement
The governing document is a scheme dated 19 August 1986 amended by resolution dated 9 April 2012
and amended by scheme dated 30 September 2013.
The Trustees consist of the Vicar and Churchwardens by virtue of their offices and two persons appointed
by the Whitchurch Parochial Church Council from amongst its members who shall setve for a temi of
three years or for so long as they are members of the council whichever is shorter. The Trustees will be
eligible for rcappointsnent at the end of their tern).

The Board of Trustees is responsible for preparing the report and flnancial statements in accordance with
applicable law and regulalions.
The law applicable to chaTities in England and Wales requires the Board of Trnstees to prepare financial
statcmcnts for cach financial year which give a ¢￿e and fair view of the stale of affairs of the charity and
of its income and expcnditure for that period.
In preparing these financial statements the BoaTd is required to..
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently-

comply with the Charities A¢t 2011, appli¢abl¢ ChaTiti¢s {A¢¢ounts and Reports) Regulations, and the
provisions of the conSti￿tion. The Trnstees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity
and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and ther irregulJa lies.
