## **Wiltshire Record Society Report for 2021**

**Wiltshire Record Society** c/o Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Cocklebury Road, Chippenham SN 15 3QN Charity no 253840.

**Aims.** The objects of the Society are to advance the knowledge of history by publishing transcripts, abstracts, indexes, lists and guides of and to the manuscript and any other documentary sources for the history of Wiltshire and to try stimulating interest in and protecting these sources.

**Management structure.** This is a members ’Society –individuals, universities and other institutions in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Executive responsibility is vested in the Committee consisting of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor and six other members elected by members at the A.G.M. The committee has the power to co-opt additional members.

**Activities.** The Society publishes annually a volume of documents on Wiltshire History. It also publishes a newsletter/journal (the Recorder) each year. The Society maintains a website which includes digital copies of past volumes and other documents otherwise unpublished. In 2021 the Society published ‘The Farming Diaries of Thomas Pinniger’. The Society’s volumes are reviewed in various academic journals. The work of the Society is discussed by the members at the A.G.M.

**Financial Review.** The Society’s main source of income is from Members’ subscriptions. Because of the rising costs of publishing, there has been a deficit of about £1-2,000 a year. This has been met for the Capital Fund (£28,831) which has accrued over a number of years. The legacy received this year (£22,886) will be used to augment the Capital Fund and to finance new projects such as an improved and extended website. There is a reserve fund (£9,629) deposited with the NSB which is to be used to meet the cost of any unexpected items and any liabilities which might arise if it should be deemed necessary to close the Society.
