The Trustee is Homeopathy UK, which has a board of trustees. The trustees who served on the board of Homeopathy UK during the year and up to the date of this report were as follows:

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEE:

The trustee presents its report together with the financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2022.

Trustee and legal status:

The trust is a registered charity. The governing instrument is a Deed of Trust made on 9 December 1920, revised by The Charity Commissioners for England and Wales with effect from 12 July 1999 and again on 16 April 2016.

The Trustee of the Hahnemann House Trust is Homeopathy UK, a registered charity (charity number 235900) and a company limited by guarantee (company number 102915).

The names of those trustees who served during the year are listed on the contents page.

The method of appointment of trustees is contained in the governing documents. Trustees are also members of Homeopathy UK’s Council and simultaneously guarantee members of the company.

Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustee to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the charity's financial activities during the period and of its financial position at the end of the period.

The Trustee is responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

The Trustee is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charity's website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.

No trustee has received any remuneration, aside from out-of-pocket expenses.

ACTIVITIES OF THE CHARITY:

Previous years:

The items of furniture belonging to Dr Samuel Hahnemann, which were loaned to the town of Koethen in Germany where Hahnemann lived for sixteen years, continue to be displayed at Hahnemann House and the Castle Museum.

It was agreed to establish an online museum to ensure the largest number of people could view and appreciate the artefacts. A new visual identity was created for the charity and in October 2019, the website www.hahnemannouse.org launched.

Activities during the year:

During the last financial year, the charity has undertaken the following work:

Organisational work : on-going review, storage and cataloguing of documentation and artefacts. This includes all letters from Hahnemann, Sir John Weir and other key people from homeopathy's history.

Sue Young Histories : historian Sue Young has curated an in-depth online resource focusing on the history of homeopathy. She has donated this resource to Hahnemann House Trust. Historian, Mel Draper PhD has edited and enhanced several hundred of these histories which have been integrated into the Trust’s website, providing users with an even richer experience.

Activities planned for 2022-23:

In reviewing and agreeing all planned activities, the Trustee has been aware of the public benefit requirement and given due consideration to the Charity Commission published guidance on the operation of the Public Benefit Requirement.

Corporate governance

The staff management team of the trust meet regularly to discuss and implement strategic issues as directed by the Trustee and to monitor and control the performance of the trust on the authority delegated by Homeopathy UK.

Reserves policy

Reserves are established and reviewed to ensure that the trust retains a level of funds to meet its forward obligations and to ensure it can reasonably maintain a level of service in line with its objectives.

Investment policy

The charity’s funds are invested in a pooled fund on our behalf by Investec Wealth & Investment Ltd.

Risk management

During the year, the Trustee re-examined the major strategic, business and operational risks, which the trust faces and confirm that systems are in place to mitigate the Hahnemann House Trust's exposure to the full range of risks identified.

Independent Examination

The Trustee in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 has elected to appoint Noelia Serrano FCA of Sayer Vincent to conduct an Independent Examination of the financial statements in respect for the year ended 31[st] August 2022.

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustee of Hahnemann House Trust

I report to the Trustee on my examination of the accounts of Hahnemann House Trust for the year ended 31 August 2022.

This report is made solely to the Trustee as a body, in accordance with the Charities Act 2011. My examination has been undertaken so that I might state to the Trustee those matters I am required to state to them in an independent examiner's report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the Trustee as a body, for my examination, for this report, or for the opinions I have formed.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity Trustee of the Charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

4 Related Parties

Homeopathy UK is a corporate connected charity with The Hahnemann House Trust and is Trustee. At the year end Hahnemann House Trust was owed by Homeopathy UK £5,743 (2021: £19,914).

A grant totalling £Nil was made during the year (2021: £50,000) which was provided to the Faculty of Homeopathy and paid directly or through Homeopathy UK.

The receipts and payments on page 8 show the cash movements between the connecting charities. A total of £29,172 (2021: £18,866) of expenses were incurred by Hahnemann House and paid for by Homeopathy UK and therefore reflected the inter-charity balance.
