2023 ANNUAL REPORT
THE FRIENDS OF ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITAL
On behalf of the Trustees of The Friends of Ro)'al Comii'all Hosp1￿1. it is an honour to present our Annual
Report.
Whilst we continue to have a presence at the hospital and support the work which is done by the hard
working sthff who are employed there, we have had to change our working practices since Covid and w¢
continue to do so. We are sure that the whole hospital would be a very ditTereni place without our volunteers
"making a difference"
Thank you so much to all the volunteers who work tirelessly in The Friends, Coffee Shop to provide a
supply of food and beverages to sLqff and visitors. as well as funds for our charity. enabling us to apportion
money to grants for vitsl equipment requ¢st¢d to us. We thanked Jean Parsons for her stoic work as leader
of the Coffee Shop Team as she hung up her apron and to the oihers who have stepped inlo her role - thank
you one and all. The Coffee Shop accommodated the RCH .4ulumn Vaccinaiion ProiJT amme and whilst
this limited seating for our visitors. it did draw more staff to our area and all were otTered a free drink.
During Covid. many of our spaces were tsken for other needs, but in September we were pleased lo have
been allocated our own storeroom. From here we run our new Mobile Shop Trolley to Wards service usin8
the T¢5urreL*d rf)Id library service trull¢y and this is growing and expanding week by week. fulfilling il need
for patients who need toilety and personal care items. books. magazines and pu721es and noi forgetting the
welcom¢ confectionary treats. Thank you to RCHT and ￿ all who have made this possible.
Fundrdisin8 is proving to be ever more challenging in these economic climes, bul we held a successful
Bingo evening. hosted a Film Night and sold boxed Cream Teas. A big Thank You musl go to Chacewater
Bdk¢ry 4￿d vur oiher Sponsors for th¢ir Lonlinued supwrt for suih events.. This hds meant Ihai during 2023
we have been able to pay for items worth in excess of £51.500 for use on site, as well as a portable scanner
to b¢ used by the community Acute Care ai Home Team to facilitate palient diagnoses quicker. Gitls were
also provided, wrapped and handed out to every adult patient in a bed with a note "Thinking of you being
in hospital on Christmas MoTnin8- from the Friend5 of RCH"
There is also a band of willing helpers who knit squares for blankets which gei placed on "end of life"
patients, beds and who make twiddle muffs to supwrt dementia patients- thank you.
Our profile has been greatly enhanced and expanded to a larger audience with our increased use of social
media - thank you to the 'lechnolo8y whiu kids" who have been responsible.
Regrettably. we have had severdl Trustees resign due to ill healih or other commitments and we thank them
for their service over many years. We would welcotne others to come forward to 5UPPOrt our Charity - so
please contact U5 if you are interested in supporting our work and have a few hour5 a month to Spare. Also.
