## **ORRELL**

## **ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING**

## **Thursday 21[st] July 2022, 7pm at Orrell Red Triangle Cricket Club Trustees Report for the Financial Year Ending 10[th] October 2021**

Orrell YMCA is part of the oldest and largest youth charity in the world. Over the years, YMCA has evolved into a significant global movement, helping over 58 million people across 119 different countries. In January 2021, Orrell YMCA itself celebrated 100 years since the first ‘Orrell and District Red Triangle Club’ was officially opened.

In its centenary year, the Association continued to share the same common goal as the many other local YMCA’s working in their local communities - to provide opportunities for people to belong, contribute and thrive in today’s society, in particular, providing opportunities for young people to develop their mental, physical and social confidence and skills.

The Association’s main objects can be summarised as - encouraging community cohesion, through providing opportunities for shared social and sporting events; delivering social, emotional, health and physical benefits for individuals through the provision of facilities for sport, recreation and leisure; and supporting the advancement of education and improved life chances for individuals.

Orrell YMCA is administered and managed by a Management Board consisting of duly elected Trustees, Honorary officers and representatives from the two other sections which form part of Orrell YMCA - Orrell Red Triangle Bowling Club and Orrell Red Triangle Cricket Club, both of which are critical in enabling the delivery of our objects. The Board is responsible for ensuring activities are carried out in line with Orrell YMCA’s constitution and objects and, in doing so, have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

During the 2020/21 financial year, in common with many other similar organisations, activities were affected by the continued COVID-19 restrictions. However, despite this, both the bowling and cricket sections continued to provide opportunities for their teams, members and the wider community to participate in sport, leisure and recreation. (It should be noted that the activities of the bowling and cricket clubs are not included in Orrell YMCA’s financial statements).

The bowling club continued to organise and facilitate a series of ‘friendly’ matches during the normal playing season whilst league games were suspended, thus providing a valuable opportunity for its 65 members to continue to enjoy the physical and social benefits of participating in the sport.

The cricket club, despite some matches having to be re-arranged, continued to field five senior teams (three on Saturday and two on Sunday) and the club’s junior section (comprising a total of nine teams) continued to thrive, enjoying a successful season in both cup and league.

During 2020/21, the Association arranged for repair and maintenance work to be carried out on the Orrell YMCA community building and surrounding grounds, the largest investment being on improving the surface of the car park. The community building continued to be leased to a private day nursery, providing childcare and early years’ provision for families in the local community.

Finally, Orrell YMCA would like to thank all the volunteers who continue to give up their time to work tirelessly across all three sections and who play a vital role in ensuring the continued delivery of a valuable community facility.
