TREASURER’S REPORT – FRIENDS OF BURNHAM-ON-SEA WAR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL 2024/2025
Please find attached copy of the accounts for the year ended 28/2/25.
I am pleased to report that the Accounts show that we continued to retain our ability to support the hospital with some of the general ongoing expenditure for the good of patients and staff alike. This is at the core of the purpose of our organisation.
Prior to expenditure on hospital equipment and the receipt of legacies, we recorded a profit for the year of £5,639.80. General income decreased by 7% on the previous year, mainly due to a decrease in overall annual party income and donations in memoriam. This decrease was more than offset, however, by the receipt of 2 legacies totalling £6,000. It is pleasing to see that we continue to receive support in the form of general donations from a number of local organisations and individuals, reflecting the importance of the hospital to our community. Following expenditure on hospital equipment of £7,653 and our regular expenditure on supporting the hospital our overall funds increased by £3,986 and we are left with a very healthy balance of £182,634, which remains available for use within the hospital. It was very pleasing to see the continuation of our community events, particularly the ever popular coffee mornings during the year, for which we remain grateful to the Methodist Church for the use of their facilities. These events not only help to raise valuable funds, but they are also an important part of the social fabric of our town for many of our residents. We were also able to repeat our popular parties in March and September at Brean Country Club, and again we are grateful to the owners for their ongoing support in allowing the use of their excellent venue.
On the expense side, we continue to look carefully at all items of general expenditure in terms of value for money and have managed to further reduce overall expenses by 6.3% during the year, whilst still fully supporting the patients and the staff during the last 12 months.
We remain ready, willing and able to support any major projects as required by the Hospital to further enhance its services to our local community. With the recently announced proposed changes to the MIU, we shall await what opportunities that brings, but I am delighted that we continue to have the wherewithal to assist as required and this remains our primary objective as a charity. In addition to the equipment we have continued to support “added extras” such as the newspapers, support at Christmas for the patients and staff and the continued provision of a vending machine for the visitors to the MIU.
We remain very lucky to have an active committee and volunteer pool that contribute to making craft items for sale and helping to run the many fundraising events. As with most voluntary organisations, much of the work falls on a few, but with other commitments growing for some committee members, it is highly likely we will need to seek further help from anyone in the community that is able and willing to in the near future.
I would like to personally thank all of the Committee for their continued hard work over the past year both on behalf of our hospital and for their support of me. All committee members play an active role ensuring the charity remains well run and in a position to support our hospital as and when required. In summary, our financial position remains strong and we retain the ability to continue to provide equipment and support as required to our wonderful hospital for the foreseeable future.
