TRUSTEES REPORT 2020
Community of Christ is a Christian church with a leadership chosen by the congregation. At present the pastor is Elder Carol Proctor.
The church’s Mission Statement is
‘We promote communities of love, joy, hope and peace’
The Denton congregation express this mission by offering their facilities to neighbourhood groups. For many years a pre-school has been run during term time through the week. At weekends the building is used by various groups including for birthday parties and family celebrations.
Another Christian group uses the church sanctuary on Sunday afternoons.
Each of these groups pays a fee for use of the facilities.
In addition, the Community of Christ congregation contribute weekly financial gifts during their worship. The church run youth groups during the evenings, and these bring additional, if small, financial gifts. Outside of the pandemic the church fund raises through various other activities, for instance charity market stalls, social evenings. A women’s group meets fortnightly and contribute ‘subs’.
All of these groups express the church’s mission statement by bringing people together in love and concern building strong interconnected communities.
During the pandemic lockdown the building was not used at all which in turn inevitably affected the income. The church roof leaked during bad weather, and we were forced to have it replaced as considerable cost. As the congregation did not have the reserves for the amount required, we had to take a loan from the Community of Christ British Isles mission centre. This loan significantly increased our income for the year.
