sLheme Wds approved on 26 June 2000. The obj¢cl of the Lharity is to help ihose in
need in the parishes of the Holy c.ross (the Abbey) and St Gile.8 in Shrewsbury.
The Trustees usually meet on eleven occasions during the year, but this may vary. The
usual arrangement is that quarterly meetings discuss policy, finance and
administration and grants, with monthly meetings in b¢tween to consider grants only.
No meetingF is held in August. When necessary, decisions on grants may be made
between the Chair and Secretary, with Trustees ratifying them later. Consideration,
with communication with Trustees of both the Miss M F Hewitt Trust and The Burkc
Bequest, took place in November to decide on Christmas gifts, which were distributed
in December. These grants were sel a&7ain at £1 00 for an individual, £150 for a couple,
and £200 for a family.
During the year. 54 households within the charity's area of benefit were given
financial assistance; 125 households received Christmas cash gifts (with some
overlap) totalling £22,000, and I I students received educational grants. Grants were
also given to primary schools within the charity's area of benefit, to help fund
residential school trips for many low income families. The Charity promotes its
activities in the area, and liaises with local schools and agencies such as Social
Services, the Citizcns Advice Bureau, the Community Mental Hcalth Trust, Housing
Support Officers, and othcr organisations whose contsct with individuals and families
lead to appropriate referrals.
