Thi8 Charity is an amalgamation of three origiinally separate charities. The new
scheme was approved on 26 ' June 2000. The object of thc charity is to help thos¢ in
need iii the pai'ishes of the Holy Cross (the Abbey) and St Giles in SI￿eWSbUry.
The Trustees usually meet on eleven occasions during the year, but this may vary. 'I'he
usual arrangiement is that quarterly meetings discuss policy, finance and
administration and grants, with monthly meetings in between to consider grants only.
No meeting is held in August. When necessary, decisions on grants may be made
between the Chair aiid Secretary, with Trustees ratit'ying thein later. .Toiiit
consideration with Trustees of both tlie Miss M r Hewiii Tru%l and The Biirke
Bequest took place in November lo deLide on Christmas g7ifts, which were distributed
in December. These gryants w¢re set at £1 00 for individual, £150 for a couple, and
£200 for a family.
During the ycar, 69 households within thc charity's area of benefit wcrc given
tinancial assistance; 115 liouseholds received Christmas cash gifts (with some
overlap) totalling £22,150, and 15 studcnts received educational grants. Grants were
also gFiven to primary schools within the charity's area of benefit, to help fund
rcsAdential school trips for many low income families. The Charity pr()motes it5
activities in the area, and liaises with local schools and agencies such as Social
Services, the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Communily Mental Health Trust, Housing
Support Officers, other organisations whose contact with individudls <md f¢'unilies lead
to appropriate referrals.

The Charity's Trustees consider that an audii is not required for this year (under S¢rtion 43(2) of ihe Charities
Act 1993 (the Act) and that an Independent Examination is needed.

My examination was carried out in accordanc¢ with the General Directions given by the Charity
Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a
compari.%on of the aLLounts presentLd with th05e records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or
disclosiires in the accounts, and seekingy explanations from the Trustees concernin&i any such matters. Tlie
proc¢dures undertak¢n do noi provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. and consequently I do
nof ¢xpr¢ss an audit opinion on the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

the requirements to ensure that
