ANNUAL REPORT 1.4.24 – 31.3.25
The charity exists to provide and maintain a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Llangors without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, and for other forms of recreation and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants.
Summary:
The last 12 months has been a successful one with bookings continuing to be strong. Most days sees the Centre being used by various hirers offering a variety of activities. We have several regular hirers who are becoming very long standing and we are immensely grateful to these. Two new regular hirers have recently started, namely a ukulele group and a dementia café.

The management committee would like to thank those who hired the hall during the year, whether regular users or those who hired it for a one-off event.
Fundraising activities by the committee members:
- Village fete; Boules tournament; Christmas Market; Quiz and Curry; Whist Drive; Pantomime
A highly successful pantomime was organised by one of the committee members, Lynn Clausen, supported by other members and many helpers. Three performances were enjoyed by over 300 people. It highlighted the enormous talent and community spirit there is in the neighbourhood.
Christmas lights were displayed on 2 trees in the village. The committee would like to thank Llangors Community Council for the purchase of one new set of lights.
Regular meetings of the management committee have been held throughout the year with the AGM taking place in May. A presentation by Lyndall Merry after the meeting highlighted the methods used to grow vegetables at Bryn Celyn, Llangors. Lydall has a stall selling vegetables, one morning a week, in the car park of the Community Centre from May through to October.
The focus for the management committee during the past twelve months was to encourage new members. It has been successful, with five new members joining, namely Mike Jones, Izaak Duffy, Colin Stroud, Kyria Greenow and Matthew Vaughan. Mike was appointed as treasurer following the resignation of Lawrence Duffy. Lawrence remains a committee member. As Lloyds Bank in Brecon closed in February 2025, the treasurer has arranged for the banking to be managed on line. Card machines have been purchased to allow for card payments to be made. Many of the hirer’s fees are now paid on line. A savings account has been opened. (See Financial Report).
The committee has sought advice about the installation of an air source heat pump to reduce the carbon footprint by utilising renewable energy. The advice obtained suggested that it would be preferable to wait until the gas boiler needed to be replaced as it is relatively new (2018). The centre remains committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
A new sound system was installed in July 2024 with the aid of a grant from The Green Man Trust. This has proved to be invaluable especially for use by speakers giving talks, quizzes, bingo etc.
A colourful new sign at the entrance to the car park highlighting Hwb Llangors, i.e. Playpark, Community Centre and Siop Llangors Shop has been erected. The committee are grateful to Dave Freeland for making and erecting the sign.
The committee is consulting with a local IT specialist to set up an online booking system. This work is ongoing.
Children’s Play Park:
The Community Centre has a 25-year lease from Powys County Council on land adjacent to the Community Centre which is used as a play and recreation area. The area continues to be a huge asset to the community with children and adults regularly using the facilities. Members of the committee undertake bi monthly inspections of the equipment and facilities with an annual RoSPA inspection organised by Powys County Council and funded by Llangors Community Council.

Guy Jones, Powys Funding Officer of The National Lottery, visited in October 2024 and was extremely impressed with the facilities created within Hwb Llangors, which was funded largely by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Repairs on the replica ‘Iron Age Round House’ sited within the play park have now been finished with daubing completed in November 2024.
Grass cutting continues to be undertaken by 2 members of the committee. A tree was cut down in the play park as it had Ash dieback.
Siop Llangors Shop:
Land adjacent to the Community Centre is leased to a committee who run a local community run shop and coffee shop. It is also a valuable asset to the local community and is supported by the Community Centre.

Future:

2025 is the 25[th] anniversary of the opening of the Community Centre in April 2000. A plaque will be unveiled to commemorate this event.

Negotiate renewal of the lease with Siop Llangors Shop in November 2025.

Maintain the fabric of the building, including some interior and exterior painting to ensure the Community Centre is maintained to a high standard.

Organise the cleaning of the underfloor heating, replace the boiler control panel.

Train members in H&S, Fire Safety Policies and procedures. Update risk assessments and policies as necessary.

Tidy the borders of the car park and maintain the flower beds in the play park
