## **Independent Examiner's Report on the Accounts**

**I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022 which are set out on pages 2 to 4.**

**Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

**The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year, (under section 43(2) of the Charities Ad 1993 (the Ad), as amended by s28 of the Charities Act 2006) and that an independent examination is needed.**

- **It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts {under section 43 of the Act, as amended; to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) often Act, as amended); and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.**

## **Basis of independent examiner's statement**

**My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.**

## **Independent examiner's statement**

## **In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:**

- **(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that: proper accounting records are kept in accordance with section 41 of the Act); and accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Ad; or**

- **(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding to be reached.**

## HURLEY CHURCH ESTATES CHARITY No. 245866

## Annual Report 2022

## Charitable Purposes

During 2022 the charity contributed £12,408 to projects and running costs associated with the fabric and churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin Church, Hurley. Expenses associated with the Church’s ongoing running costs included insurance (£2,720), heating and utilities (£2,185), churchyard maintenance (£2,206) and cleaning costs (£1339). In addition, £3958 was spent on general repairs and maintenance.

## Financial

Total expenditure of £3986 was incurred on maintenance, insurance, and agency fees in connection with the charity’s properties.

The charity’s gross rental income decreased by 5.6% reflecting a full year of a business tenancy negotiated at a lower rate end 2021 to take account of business lost due to Covid.

The overall rental income has now recovered and is forecast to show a return to 2021 levels in the 2023 Accounts.

The Trustees have taken advantage of higher Bank interest levels, which will be reflected in 2023 accounts.

There was an overall surplus of £15,162 during the year.

There are no major projects planned by St Mary the Virgin Church for 2023 requiring the Charity’s assistance.

## Serious Incidents

The Trustees confirm that there are no serious incidents or other matters which they should have brought to the attention of the Commission and have not done so already.
