Objectives and Activities of the Society

The Society is established for the public benefit for the following purposes:-

The Society’s Strategy for achieving its Stated Objectives

The society lobbies local councillors, developers and other bodies in response to major planning issues in the area of benefit. The Chairman, Planning Officer and selected members appear at local forums and public enquiries to forward the aims of the Society.

Fundraising Activities

The Society undertakes a number of fundraising activities. Each year the society produces the Hale Calendar which is supported by local businesses which helps offset the cost of production. Profits from the calendar sales go towards activities supported by the society. We continually update our archives through the calendar.

Monies from a number of activities go towards administration too.

Each year we have the PoppiesBlow project for Remembrance

The initiatives entitled BloominHale & SpruceUp involved the community and businesses working together to address wellbeing of the community in and around Hale Village providing planters etc is now an on-going initiative for the village.

This year the society took the lead to raise funds for Christmas lights thereby working closely with businesses & the local community. The Hale Business Association had folded and the society helped bring the businesses together under the banner of Hale Business Voice.

Summary of the Main Achievements of the Society during the Year

The Society and the Covid World

Many of the activities undertaken by the society were put on hold as meetings & many activities that are generally undertaken could not be held.

The society joined with St Peters Church to form a group ‘Neighbourly’ in order to help with the elderly & house bound as part of the Covid & lockdown.

During this time a reflective survey of the village took place and decisions were reached to tackle the ‘look’ of the village.

A major plan was formulated to Spruce Up! and become a Blooming Marvellous place to live, work and socialise in.

Once plans were drawn up then families, neighbours & businesses were invited to join in to tackle the ‘grot’. Working outdoors and following covid rules was vital.

A SpruceUp team selected areas and work commenced, then approaching the local businesses and community planters, fountains & hanging baskets were purchased and filled to the delight of the village.

Adding to the attractiveness of the village the society & businesses were keen to add flags to many buildings who wanted to be part of the scheme.

Through PoppiesBlow, the initiative for Remembrance, we created poppy workshops to make poppies for our own poppy fields and purchased some poppies for the lamp posts.

The Charities Act 2006

The trustees believe they have complied with the duty in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

The Nature of the Governing Document and Constitution of the Society

The Society was established in 1965 and its constitution was adopted at the AGM of the Society held on 19[th] May 1971 and amended on 3[rd] April 1974, 18[th] May 1978, 20[th] May 1987 and 9[th] April 2008.

Methods Adopted for the Recruitment and Appointment of New Trustees

The Society invites nominations for the position of trustee in advance of its Annual General Meeting held in May of each year. Elections are held at the Annual General Meeting. Existing trustees are eligible for re-election.

Reserves

Reserves are maintained to fund the Society’s regular newsletter and to maintain and increase both the photographic and paper archive situated in Hale Library. Some work has begun on the digitisation of the historical photographs, but Lottery funding will need to be obtained to complete this lengthy and expensive project. The paper archive is in the process of being re-catalogued and rehoused, but this is a time consuming task and all offers of help are welcome. Principal Funding Sources
