Victoria Hall Centenary Committee
Chairman's Report May 30th 2023
First of all thanks to all committee members for their work at the hall and particularly for their hard work behind the scenes to keep the hall running efficiently. A special thanks to Ken Price for the caretaking and cleaning work that he carries out. The Victoria Hall has been a valuable asset to this community since 1887 and I think we should incorporate those words into our Victoria Hall logo.
The past year, since lockdown restrictions have eased, has seen a rise in bookings for the hall facilities. For example The Queen's Jubilee and King Charles' Coronation Celebrations showed how the hall and its volunteers can 'put on a good show'. The regular organisations such as Sewing Group, Merched y Bont, Bryn Irfon Dance Group, Gardening Club, Epynt Motor Club, Yoga and The Eisteddfod continue to book regularly.
Lots of birthday parties, film nights, coffee mornings, table top sales, bingo evenings, artisan food fayres and dance evenings have been held in the hall over the past year. The lights in the main hall were changed for dimmable led bulbs. Apologies if I have missed any off.
Regarding the building and facilities: The hall main gas heating boiler had to be replaced after being condemned at the annual service. A lottery grant was awarded to help with replacement boiler costs.
Other repairs also had to be completed on the building extension heating system together with ongoing maintenance work for the rest of the building. We have proactively requested three audits/inspections.
1 Development Trust Association Wales Energy Audit, Whole Community Building Report.
2 Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Fire Safety Inspection.
3 Full Electrical Survey – Martin Rees, Electricians
We are using the results of these reports to prioritise remedial work that is required.
The gym continues to provide a facility for Llanwrtyd and District residents to exercise. Gym numbers have fluctuated during the year. New weight training equipment has been purchased after surveying the gym users about what they required. It is hoped that more members will be attracted by the availability of this equipment.
Finally, for the future, our main drive should be to obtain quotes to enable us to apply for any relevant grant funding to complete the necessary work to retain Victoria Hall as a valuable asset to the town and community of Llanwrtyd Wells and district.
