Burgh Common Trustees- Meeting 2(f September 2022 nm Grazing Suminary Broads Authority Summary Natural England Summary . RPA Summary Scheme Summary l. Grazing Summary 9801 (near broad) - Levi has grazed this pretty extensively, as agTreed, to try and reduce the rush cover. This has been reasonably effective. considerin&y it wasn't gyrazed last year and the rushes were so dense when he started. 8884 (isolated reed) - the cattle have gvrazed a clear path throu&¥h the reeds along the edgie of the muckfleet, and in places further into the reedbed. This has opened up a path and the gateways into 5967 5967 (gyate reed) - as with 8884, the cattle have grazed a clear pathway around the edgle of the reedbed, and in some places further in. They have also opened up the gateway to 4477 4477 (easy rougyh)- gjrazing &70illbi well. 7973 - no comment as yet. this is a very! Reed dominated and isolated parccl. Levi has made gireat progress this year so hopet.ully next year we can ivork on this parcel. 6463 - abandoned Grazin&i the remaining dryer areas as we approach the winter. Levi has asked for a deroglation to &yraze later in the year into the new year - I have suggyested we wait until November to review this with Natural Engyland as they will not give consent sooner. AlthougFh there has been a lot of vegetative birowth in the last few weeks due to the rains - so there is an increased likelihood that we will need it to put us in a gyood position to allow next years gyrowth. 2. Broads Authority Summary Brash piles between 18113 and 18114 will be bumed - NE complained about this earlier in the year. Scrub rou&FillgF in 18113 will be done to opcn the compartmcnt Yearly cut of a 5th of compartment 18103 will occur - strips rather than patches Still in discussions regardin&1 the inclusion of dyke managFement as part of the annual fee - this has been hampered by my maternity leave. Fen Harvesting offered at £262.761day - as yet we haven't
booked any work for the 22123 winter. If Levi does a good Job grazing. hopefully ive wont have to. Veg7etative report of Little Broad to be released hopefully before Christmas 3. Natural Engyland Summary After some crossed wires, consent stood for fencingy SSSI consent. Staithe Works- SSSI consent needs updating- The slubbings from the dyke were to be restricted to a short distance from the hig7her ground, and then following7 marsh level to the Broad. The extra slubbings volume was to be used near the hibiher ground to build up an area for cars to turn and reverse boats into the end of the staithe. My understsndingv from the conversations at the time of the works was that the initial slubbingi work was done along the lengFth that was slubbed to complete that phase in March ahead of the bird breedingj season. The diggier would then return once the slubbingys had dried to pull the material back to the car turning7 end and restore marsh levels. This second phase of the work has not been completed and the attached plan gives the detail of what this would look like on the gyround. Tied in with the final levellingy work, the fencing and gate will then need to be installed. This was included so that access would be for pern]it holders only, so that use of the staiihe for storingv or launchinbi boats can be regiulated. No canoes or paddleboards are permitted, and when we have visited there have been canoes stored on site. There has been a problem with these craft on the Trinities in the last couple of years, and it may be that some of these have been stored anor launched from the staithe. The trustees were to supply the Trinity warden and Natural England a list of those parishioners that had permits, but this is yet to happen. This was to be tied to those with permits and access keys once the fencing had been completed.
Deer High Seats - Dan Duthie confim]ed they are facingy into the arable fields and on arable land and as such shouldn't be an issue to the common. Shooting Licence - NE have requested that we submit a bag count and supplementary feed in 2 designated areas. Further Fencing- will need to be discussed with Levi and then consented. Cutting - NE says we can cut the dyke banks, the BA are worried about Water Voles. Any further cutting requests will simultanLously. May be rLdundant this )'ear - will ivork closely with the birazier and the shoot. 4. RPA Summary Option to change &FrazingT supplement on parcel 7973 to cutting. Elected agiainst this as we have a gyra7.ier on site and the fen harvester would be a net cost to the trustees. 5. Scheme Summary We will undertake a crude conversion of the HLS into CSS, however it is likely that we would be better off optinby for an extension for a year until ELMS is available. Dependant on developments with ELMS. Action Points" Brown & Co to liaise with SSSI oificer to obtain a cyclical cutting plan foT the gyorse in parcel 7792. BA to comment on approxiinat¢ coverage of the fen harvester in a day in order to facilitate decision making for cutting next year. Brown & Co to confirni that the BA can cut in strips rathcr than patches on parcel 9272 - actioned. Fencing contractor to be organised to quote for Staithe fencing and gate which will then forn] the basis of the SSSI consent extension for the works. In tsndem,
propose perniits are linked to residential dwellings rather than residents. Any SSSI consents for fencing will be actioned following a meetingy with the grazier later in the year.
