Objectives and Activlties
The Charity is the result of an award of land and Common Rights set up by the Burgh and Billockby
Enclosure Award 1804 and regulated under this Award for the benefit of poor inhabitants of Burgh St
Margaret and Billockby. In living memory the income has mainly been dislribuled in the fomi of
payments for fvel or cash payments in lieu to pensioners and widows within the parish.
The Trust is further charged with the management and conservation of Burgh Common and its adjacent
land. The Trust works with a number of associates in conducting regular assessment and where
ne￿SSary investment, in developing and safeguarding the SSI ac￿edIta￿.On that Burgh Common
possesses. Further opportunities exist through land sectors, which are set aside for grazing and arable
farming.
Following a merger in 2010, the Charity has tsken on additional activities which include the provision
to each ¢hild under school leaving age who sleeps in the parish of Burgh St Margaret during the night
preceding Plough Monday each year a loaf of br8ad on the following day.
Publlc beneflt
The Trustees have had due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission on public benefit
and Consider the Charity provides a public benefit through its distribution of fuel payments to
pensioners and widows and loaves to ¢hildren in the parish.
A¢hievement$, Perforniance and Flnancial Review
The gross income for the year was £28,951 12022.. £26,099} and expenses amounted to £12,360
{2022. £21,937). Payments for loaves and cash amounted to £5,988 {2022'. £6,519).
As at 31 March 2023 the charrty had cash reserves of £55,62512022'. £45,022). These reserves are
held for future distribution to the beneficiaries of the chanty in accordance with the objectives and
activities above.

Commissioners under Enclosure Act 41 GEO. 3 Rep. Vol. 26 P267 (Registration Number 2437891.
Recrultment, Appolntment and Responslblllty of Trustees
Each Trustee services a period of four (41 years. Trustees are responsible for the general control and
management of the administration of the charity and conform, in general, to the provision and current
requirements of the Charity Commission.

I report to the charity's trustees on my examination of the accounts of the tharity for the year ended 31
March 2023 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.

As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation ofthe accounts in accordan¢e with the
requirements of the Charities Act 20111'the Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act
and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity
Commission under section 145{5llb} of Ihe Act.

The Charity owns approximately 135 acres of wet fen, pasture and arable land {s88 page 2 for details).
The Trustees have not obtained a valuabon of this land.
On the transfer of assets from the Charities ststed within the trustees report, the Charity gained
ownership of the follNing parcels of land of which the Trustees have no knowledge as to their value..
4.7 acres of pasture land which are let under agricultural tenancy agreements.
Half acre of arable land (The Halfpenny Loaf Field) thich is let urKler a short tem tenancy
agreement.
Approximately 12 acres of arable and grazing land which are let under agricultural tenancies, short
temi leases and allotment holdings. During the year, the charity sold 245 square metres of this
land for £10,000.
The charity also gained ownership of 62.11 units of income shares in the COIF Charities Investment
Fund. Their value as at 31 March 2023 was £1,162 {2022.' £1,208).
CURRENT LIABILITIES
Accounlancy fees of £558 (2022: £501) are payable.
