The League of Friends of Sevenoaks Hospital

Chairman’s Annual Report

Good evening, It is my pleasure to present to you my Annual Report.

This year has been rather more productive with some of the changes that have been occurring.

After discussion with Rachel Dalton, Chief AHP officer, I signed a Memorandum of Agreement and a Licence to Occupy Agreement which has formalised a number of issues that we were already complying with.

It enabled us to agree a contract with Hawkhurst Bread Shed to supply the Tea Room with sandwiches, sausage rolls and salad bowls, all of which are very much appreciated by staff and patients alike.

We have supported the Hospital with the purchase of Anatomical Models for use within the UTC team, to support the clinicians to help patients understand their illness or injury by being able show them anatomically what has happened or how conditions are identified.

A defibrillator was also purchased during the year to replace the one stolen from the hospital. These items amounted to £2,945.

Subsequent to the year-end, Shockwave Therapy equipment for the Physiotherapy Department and a recliner chair for the Hearing Services Department were purchased. The recliner chair helps the children relax so that their treatment can be expedited. The Lead Paediatric Audiologist said “The use of this chair will have a significant positive impact on the comfort and experience of the children and families we work with, particularly during the long

assessments that require patients to remain asleep. Your kindness and support directly enhance the quality of care we are able to provide, and we are truly grateful.” The cost of these two items amounted to £9,828.

We have agreed to purchase a Cardiac Monitor for the UTC Department but this is still awaiting confirmation from the Trust. We have also agreed funding for some replacement plants and bark for the Hospital Memorial Garden to keep it looking welcoming for patients and visitors. Thanks to Gemma Burgess for all her hard work keeping it up to scratch.

Last year I mentioned that one of our new members, David Gamble, offered to organise a Food and Craft Fayre to raise funds for the hospital. The dates we were looking at clashed with a number of other similar events being organised in Sevenoaks so it was agreed to reconsider it in 2027.

We again provided hampers for the UTC staff working on Christmas Day and Boxing Day which were well received.

We are still recruiting new volunteers for the Tea Room and along with all our current volunteers, who all had their DBS checks renewed, I am pleased to say all were successful.

As a lay person I do find that the Hospital being run by two different Trusts is very confusing, it also makes it more difficult to understand the structure that is currently being developed. Hopefully with the presence of Senior Trust Staff here this evening we will get some clarity.

We receive many compliments from visitors to the Tea Room who say the experience and welcome they receive cheers up their day, many admit the Volunteers are the only people they have spoken to

that day other than their taxi driver! The volunteers feel by doing this it makes their shift more worthwhile.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Committee and Volunteers for all the work they put in to support the Hospital.

Ladies and gentlemen that concludes my Annual report.
